Sony's New Digital Cameras Promote Sports And Fashion
The Cyber-shot DSC-U60 digital camera's ruggedized and waterproof design brings picture taking to places users would be cautious in taking a conventional camera: the ski slope, the beach, the side of a mountain, even up to 5 feet underwater. The Cyber-shot U30 model has a compact, fashionable design that turns it into an attention-grabbing, wearable accessory that is light enough to hook to a belt loop, drape around the neck or carry in a pocket. Both models will be available in early July, and will sell for around $250 and $200, respectively.

Pentax *ist D SLR Delayed Until Late AugustPentax Japan has now officially delayed the launch of their new *ist D digital SLR interchangeable lens camera until "late August" due to delivery problems with some components. Pentax had previously announced a July delivery date. Many digicam makers are suffering from similar parts shortages due to the SARS breakout in China and excessively high demand for imagers and other digicam components being used in all sorts of new consumer products.
We certainly hope that Pentax can meet the new delivery date as their last digital SLR
camera was scrapped before it became a reality. This was probably a smart move on their
part seeing as how the market prices were dropping rapidly for these cameras thanks to
Canon's D30, D60 and the Nikon D100. The first Pentax dSLR would have been priced too
high so they went back to the drawing board and came up with the *ist D which looks to be
a great camera at a much better price point. Time will tell, check back in August or
September as we should have looked at one by then.

Kodak Announces Agreement to Acquire Applied Science Fiction™ TechnologiesROCHESTER, N.Y., May 12 – Eastman Kodak Company today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Applied Science Fiction’s proprietary rapid film processing technology, Digital PIC™, and other key assets, the company’s latest effort to make photography in all its forms easy and ubiquitous in a digital age. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Applied Science Fiction is the creator of the award-winning Digital ICE™ and Digital ICE3™ technologies, the leader of automatic photo restoration applications, as well as the inventor of the cutting-edge digital dry film processing system Digital PIC. Digital PIC rapidly develops standard color negative film without chemical mixing or plumbing. The process simultaneously renders a digital image file that can be used to print photographs and write images on a CD. Kodak sees a generation of Picture Maker kiosks that function much like automatic picture machines, available everywhere and providing processing and printing for either film or digital camera users. Since these machines will accept film or digital camera input, as well as prints, consumers will be able to preview and select, edit and print their pictures in a matter of minutes. These kiosks will appeal both to existing photo retailers who want to give consumers greater access to their pictures as well as to the expanding channels for picture-taking activities such as vacation and entertainment venues.
