BreezeBrowser Now Supports Canon 10D and S50
Chris Breeze emailed me to let me know that he had just released BreezeBrowser v2.6
which includes Canon EOS 10D and Powershot S50 raw conversion. BB v2.6 is the only
application currently available that uses the Canon raw conversion routines and supports
the 10D, G3, S45 and S50 - Canon's File View Utility that ships with the 10D doesn't
include the patches to fix the G3 and S45 custom WB and linear conversion problems.
New in this release is the focus point overlay display when viewing raw files from Canon EOS D30, D60, 1D
and 1DS cameras. When this option is selected active focus points are displayed in red and inactive ones are
shown in black.

DDI Software Releases Profile Prism 4.0Mike Chaney emailed to let me know that he had just released Profile Prism v4.0 for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP users. Profile Prism is software that allows monitor calibration and can generate ICC profiles for digital cameras, scanners, and printers using a 5x7 reflective color target with a matte surface. Resulting color profiles may be used in any ICC aware application such as Qimage Pro, Adobe PhotoShop, Corel PhotoPaint, and many others. The software is designed for a PC running any 32 bit Windows operating system, however, it can be run on a Mac running Virtual PC. In addition, since the ICC profiles generated by Profile Prism are 100% compliant with ICC specs, the profiles themselves may be used on any platform (PC, Mac, etc.).
Version 4.0 features a quantum leap in printer profile accuracy and consistency. Printer
profiling: v4.0 uses an all new 9,261 color patch printer target and completely
redesigned printer profiling code to generate profiles unmatched in quality and
accuracy. The new color target and associated algorithms provide a dramatic breakthrough
in profile accuracy and consistency across different printers/papers/inks. In addition
to allowing profiling of Epson printers in their true raw output mode (no color
adjustment), v4.0 also eliminates "yellow cast" issues reported by users of older
versions who were using Canon printers. Existing users should check the "release notes"
section of the program help since there have been significant changes in recommended
print driver settings, scanner settings, target evaluation, etc. Faster: The large
range of printed color patches has eliminated the need to "interpolate" data across the
color gamut and has also reduced profile generation time as a result. Profile Prism v4.0
is up to 30% faster at generating printer profiles.

Samsung Introduces World's First Rechargeable CR-V3 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
(One more item that we "missed" during the show...)
A single Samsung I-Pack doesn't just do the job of two conventional cells -- it delivers better performance too. When used in a digital camera, with the power hungry LCD preview screen turned on, the built-in flash used for 50% of the exposures, and making continuous shots every thirty seconds, two AA alkaline batteries will last only eleven minutes and take approximately twenty-four photographs. Replace those two AA alkaline batteries with the new Samsung I-pack, and the same camera, used under the same conditions will last for 130 minutes and make 280 shots!
Samsung’s Digimax Battery I-Pack recharges in just two hours, and unlike
other rechargeable technologies of the not-so-distant past doesn't have a
“memory” and can be recharged many times without ill effects or shortening the
effective battery life. Even if you stick your camera up on a shelf with fully
charged batteries, it will last more than six months before power begins to fade.
The Digimax Battery I-Pack uses Lithium-Ion batteries and has a built-in
constant voltage circuit for increased stability and comes with a battery charger
that's capable of charging Ni-MH batteries as well. So when the I-Pack's
Lithium-Ion battery pack needs to be recharged, you can substitute Ni-MH
batteries in a pinch.
