Canon EOS D30

Digital Features & Controls

Canon EOS D30

As noted previously, the D30 is comprised of two sections, the camera with the exposure controls and the digital imaging section. Here's the color LCD and the control buttons for the digital half of the D30.

The Menu button calls up the menu which is navigated with the quick selection dial. You accept menu selection by pressing the button in the center of the selection dial. The On/Off switch allows the quick selection dial to be used to make changes to the camera section options when the menu is not displayed.

The Custom White Balance is set by shooting a picture of a white card that fills the center circle on the viewfinder. When you select the Custom WB option from the menu it asks you which stored image you want to use to calibrate the color temperature. You can keep these pictures and use them later if you work in the same lighting conditions frequently.

If you have connected the D30 to your computer and created and saved at least one set of custom parameters to the camera - you will have this menu option available. If no parameters exist then this option doesn't show up on the menu.

You can create 3 sets of parameters with any combination of sharpness, color and contrast adjustments and then call them up when desired. These values can be set for Low, Normal or High. More on this on the Software page.

Pressing the INFO button while in record mode brings up a screen full of settings and parameters currently in use. One of the handiest is the amount of space (in MB) left on the storage device - yep, there's a 1GB Microdrive in there.
