Pressing the playback button on the back of the camera allows you to see all of the images that you have captured that are still saved on the SD card. The DISP button allows you to change the amount of information that is shown for each image. You can select from no information to a full screen including full-color histograms.

The camera's index mode allows you to view thumbnails of the images that you have stored on the SD card. You can also select files by type or when they were taken with the calendar mode.

To check focus and details, the camera also allows you to zoom in on your images. Once you are zoomed in, you can use the 4-way controller to scroll around the image.

Play menu options:
  • Delete - Remove files from the memory card
  • View Mode - Date View, Folder View (still), Folder View (MP4), AVCHD View
  • Image Index - Enter the Index playback function
  • Display Rotation - Auto, Manual, Off
  • Slide Show - Start an automated slide show
  • Rotate - Rotate the orientation of an image
  • Enlarge Image - Magnify an image for critical inspection
  • 4K Still Image PB
  • Protect - Protect files from deletion
  • Specify Printing - Sets images for DPOF printing

Once you have connected the camera to a smartphone, you have the option to quickly transfer images to the phone from the playback mode.

Video playback on the a7R is smooth and vivid on the camera's LCD screen. The camera offers basic playback controls, allowing you to see the video frame-by-frame. You can also hook the camera up to any HDTV with an optional HMDI cable to view your movies and images in true full HD.

  • Viewfinder Bright - Set the brightness of the viewfinder
  • Finder Color Temp. - ±2
  • Volume Settings - 0-15
  • Audio Signals - On or Off
  • Tile Menu - On or Off
  • Mode Dial Guide - On or Off
  • Delete Confirm - Delete First, Cancel First
  • Display Quality - High, Standard
  • Power Saving Start Time - 10 seconds, 1, 2, 5 or 30 minutes
  • Cleaning Mode - Cleans the image sensor
  • Demo Mode - Plays a demonstration of movie playback
  • Remote Ctrl - On or Off
  • HDMI Resolution - Auto, 1080p, 1080i
  • CTRL for HDMI - On or Off
  • HDMI Info Display - On or Off
  • USB Connection - Auto, Mass Storage, MTP, PC Remote
  • USB LUN Setting - Multi, Single
  • Language - Select the display language
  • Date/Time Setup - Set the date and time
  • Area Setting - Set the region of the world you are shooting in
  • Format - Format the memory card
  • File Number - Series, Reset
  • Select REC Folder - Choose the folder that the images are stored in
  • New Folder - Create a new folder to store images
  • Folder Name - Standard Form, Date Form
  • Recover Image DB - Recovers the image database file
  • Display Media Info - Shows space left on SD card for still images and video at the camera's current settings
  • Version - Displays the camera's software and lens versions
  • Setting Reset - Restores the camera's default settings
