The still image capture screen appears when you half press the shutter release. Here it just displays the information about the current image. For a total number of pictures left, you will have to look at the default video screen shown below.
Here on the default screen, you see the number of remaining pictures as well as the remaining time of video capture based on the current settings. Also at the bottom is battery life indicator, telling you in minutes how long you have left. Pressing the set button will clear all this information from the screen.
Although this is not the default menu, this one gives you only the basic camera setup choices of Image and Video size, Focus Mode and Flash Mode.
