The TL225 is equipped with a Schneider-KREUZNACH 4.6x (4.9 - 22.5mm) optical zoom lens. It covers a 35mm equivalent range of approx. 27 - 124.2mm, and has a maximum aperture range of f/3.5 - f/5.9 (Wide - Telephoto). When the camera is powered down, the lens retracts into the body and is protected by a built-in lens cover.

Focus is achieved by a TTL auto focus system that offers Multi, Center, Face Detection, Smart Touch, Smart Face Recognition, and One Touch Shooting options. The camera also offers a focus-assist illuminator, which helps the camera focus in dark lighting conditions.

The Autofocus Range is:

• Normal : 2.6 ft. (80cm) - infinity
• Macro : 1.96 in. - 2.6 ft. (5cm - 80cm) @ wide angle, 1.64 ft. - 2.6 ft. (50cm - 80cm) @ telephoto
  
• Auto Macro : 1.96 in (5cm) - Infinity @ wide angle, 2.6 ft. (50cm) - Infinity @ telephoto
• Super Mode: 1.18 in. - 3.14 (3cm - 8cm)
  

The built-in flash has modes for Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Slow sync, Flash off, and Red-eye fix. Working range in wide angle is approx. 7.9 in. to 11.2 ft. (0.2 to 3.4m), telephoto is 1.6 ft. to 6.6 ft. (0.5 to 2.0m), using ISO Auto. Recharge time is approx. 4 seconds with fully charged battery.


 

On the back you will find a nice wide aspect 3.5-inch touch screen LCD with 1,152,000 pixels of resolution (the highest resolution LCD we've seen thus far on a digicam). All camera functions and controls are accessed by touching the surface of the LCD. The camera will emit a sound or vibrate every time you touch the screen, depending on the options chosen in the menu. The only control on the back is the Play button located at the top right corner.

The TL225 stores images, movies and sound clips on either the ~55MB of internal memory or MicroSD memory cards up to 4GB and MicroSDHC cards up to 8GB.

The TL225 is powered by a SLB-07A 3.7V 720mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery pack. Samsung claims this pack can power the TL225 for up to 180 photos or 60 minutes of video.  The battery pack is charged while inside the camera, and Samsung has taken a creative approach to the AC charger. The USB cable is also the charger cable - you just plug it into the small AC adapter included in the box or plug it into your PC/Mac to transfer your photos and recharge at the same time (note: charging from a computer takes about twice as long as using the AC adapter).
