Features & Controls
The SL 420 is equipped with a Samsung 5x optical zoom lens, which covers a focal range of f = 6.3 ~ 31.5mm (35 - 175mm, 35mm equivalent) and has a maximum aperture range of f/3.5 - f/5.5. When the camera
is powered down, the lens retracts into the body and is protected by a built-in lens cover.Focus is achieved by a TTL face detection AF system, that features a low-light focus assist illuminator. The Autofocus Range is:

Normal: 2.6 ft. (80cm) to infinity at wide angle
Macro: 4.0 in. - 2.6 ft. (10cm - 80cm) wide, 1.6 - 2.6 ft. (50cm - 80cm) telephoto
The built-in flash has modes for Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Slow sync, Flash off, and
Red-eye fix. Working range in wide angle is approx. 7.8 in. to 11.8 ft. (0.2 to 3.6m), telephoto is 1.6 ft.
to 6.6 ft. (0.5 to 2.3m), using ISO Auto. Recharge time is approx. 4 seconds with fully charged battery.
Controls on the back: At the top is the cameras zoom paddle. Pushing up zooms in on the subject of your photo in both record and playback mode. Pushing down zooms out in record mode and accesses the index in playback mode. Under that is the scene selection dial. To the lower left is the menu button which sits atop the 4-way selector control. The 4-way selector controller is for navigating
menu options, press the OK button in the center to accept a selection.
Press "Right" to activate the Self-timer, press "Down" to enable Macro
mode, press "Left" to change flash modes and press "Up" controls the
amount of information displayed on the LCD screen.Along the bottom are the playback button (enters review mode), and the delete/Fn button.
The only controls on the top of the SL 420 are the power button and the shutter release. Also the ports for the speaker and microphone are located here.
The combination I/O port is located on the right hand side of the
camera above the wrist strap mount. The miniature connector is for the
USB 2.0 (full-speed) data cable, Audio/Video cable for connection to a
TV set, and is used for charging the battery. This means you can plug
the camera into any powered USB port on your PC/Mac to charge the
camera. Samsung also includes an AC adapter that allows you to plug
the camera into an AC outlet for charging.
The SL 420 stores images, movies and sound clips on either the ~9MB of internal memory or MMC
cards up to 2GB, SD cards up to 4GB, and SDHC cards up to 8GB.
