Samsung's PL200 comes with a 7x optical zoom lens. It will cover a focal range of  f = 5.6 ~ 39.2mm (31 - 217mm, 35mm equivalent) and has a maximum aperture range of f/3.3 - f/5.5. This lens is protected by retracting into the body and covered by a built-in lens cover when the camera is powered down. 

The Autofocus Range is:

  • Normal: 2.6ft. (80cm) to infinity, 4.9ft. (150cm) to infinity telephoto
  • Macro: 2in. (5cm) - 2.6ft. (80cm) wide, 2.3ft. (70cm) - 4.9ft. (150cm) telephoto
  • Auto Macro: 2in. (5cm) - infinity wide, 2.3ft. (70cm) - infinity telephoto

samsung_PL200_flash.jpgHere you can see the built-in flash, which offers six modes; Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Slow sync, Flash off, and Red-eye fix. Working range in wide angle is approx.  1.3 in. to 9.8 ft. (0.4m to 3.0m), telephoto is 2.3 ft. to 6.6 ft. (0.7m to 2.0m), using ISO Auto.


The back of your camera is where all of your controls are located. This is where all of the settings for your PL200 are accessed. The menu key takes you into all of your camera's options, such as sound, display, and shooting modes. To the right of the menu key is the "mode" key that allows you to set your camera to various shooting modes. The 4-way pad that allows you to scroll through the menu and function screens. The "ok" button is used to select options in these screens. In capture mode the 4-way pad can also be used as a shortcut for some options: "UP" will change the screen display to only basic information and back to all photo info, "DOWN" selects between Auto-focus and Macro, "LEFT" allows you to choose a flash mode, and "RIGHT" lets you decide to set the self timer if wanted. Bottom left is the "Play" button that moves the camera into play mode. To the right of the play button you have the "Function" key that brings up the function shortcut menu. The function key also substitutes as the delete key when applicable.

samsung_PL200_top.jpgThere are only a few controls on the top of the PL200. (Right to Left) The first button you see is the shutter release, then the power on/off button, and last is the Smart key. The shutter release also has a zoom toggle mounted around it, that is also used to control the index and magnify options in Play mode.

samsung_PL200_io.jpgLocated on the right side of the PL200 is the combination I/O port. This port is for the USB 2.0 (full-speed) data cable, Audio/Video output for connection to a TV set, and is also the port used for recharging the battery. You may also use any USB port on your PC/Mac to charge the camera or the included is an AC adapter. No AV cable is included.

samsung_PL200_memory.jpgThe PL200 has an internal memory of 90MB, however a memory card is recommended. This will store your images, movies, and sound clips on a SD card up to 2GB or SDHC card up to 8GB.

samsung_PL200_battery.jpgThe PL200 comes with a BP70A 3.7V 740mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery. The battery is recharged inside the camera, via the USB port and cable. You just plug it into the small AC adapter included in the box. You can also plug it into your PC to transfer your photos and recharge at the same time! (note: charging from the PC takes about twice as long as using the AC adapter). Samsung claims you can get about 160 photos on a full charge.
