Record Screens & Menus

By

Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The NX2000 kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.

Record - auto GIF.gif
In Auto shooting mode, you'll see a few different icons on the NX2000's touch screen LCD, indicating the current settings. In the upper left corner you'll see the current shooting mode icon (Auto). The upper right corner's icons indicate the free space remaining on the memory card, the battery charge, the current resolution, the burst mode, and the flash mode.

In the lower right corner is the Fn button, through which you can control the settings indicated in the upper right corner. And in the lower left corner, from bottom to top, is the Menu button, Display button, Touch AF button, and the Smart Camera app button.

Touch the Display button to change the look of the Auto shooting screen by removing the majority of the screen's icons. Touch the Display button a second time to restore the icons.

Record - home GIF.jpg
When you're ready to switch shooting modes, touch the Home button in the lower right corner of the camera body (not on the LCD screen). You'll see four different mode options on the Home screen: Auto, Smart, Expert, and Wi-Fi. Just touch the on-screen button for each mode to select it.

Record - smart GIF.gif
Samsung uses Smart Auto to designate its scene modes with the NX2000. Although having scene modes may seem unnecessary with an advanced interchangeable lens camera, these options can make it a little easier for a beginning photographer to transition to a model like the NX2000.

You'll see the scene modes along the right side of the screen. Drag your finger along the screen to scroll through all of the different options and then touch a box to begin using that scene mode.

The Smart Auto mode options are:

  • Fireworks
  • Light Trace
  • Creative Shot
  • Beauty Face
  • Best Face
  • Landscape
  • Macro
  • Action Freeze
  • Rich Tones
  • Panorama
  • Waterfall
  • Silhouette
  • Sunset
  • Night

Record - advanced GIF.gif
Touch the Expert button to gain access to the various advanced shooting modes with the NX2000. With the digital mode dial on the screen in Expert mode, drag your finger along the dial to "spin" it and then touch a button to begin using that particular mode. The Expert mode options are:

  • Program (P)
  • Aperture Priority (A)
  • Shutter Priority (S)
  • Manual (M)
  • Custom (icon of a person)

Record - smart panel GIF.jpg
In most of the shooting modes, you'll have access to the Fn button in the lower right corner of the screen. Touch the Fn button to gain access to a variety of the camera's settings through the Smart Panel.

Touch a button on the Smart Panel to gain access to more detailed options for each setting. This is a great feature for gaining quick access to the most important shooting functions. And Samsung did a very nice job designing Smart Panel for use with a touch screen LCD, as it's easy to use. Beginners will be able to begin using this feature like an expert almost immediately.

The number and types of buttons that will be available in the Smart Panel will change, depending on which shooting mode you're using. More advanced shooting modes will offer more choices. Some buttons will be grayed out in some shooting modes, while other buttons will disappear in certain shooting modes. The buttons available in Custom mode, from upper left to lower right, are:

  • Shutter Speed - 1/4000, 1/3200, 1/2500, 1/2000, 1/1600, 1/1250, 1/1000, 1/800, 1/640, 1/500, 1/400, 1/320, 1/250, 1/200, 1/160, 1/125, 1/100, 1/80, 1/60, 1/50, 1/40, 1/30, 1/25, 1/20, 1/15, 1/13, 1/10, 1/8, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.3, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 20, 25, 30, Bulb

Record - flash GIF.jpg
The NX2000 offers a few different flash control options, including Fill-in, Fill-in Red (for red-eye correction), 1st Curtain, and 2nd Curtain. The NX2000 doesn't have a "flash off" mode because it doesn't need one as it has no built-in flash option. To turn off the flash, just remove the external flash unit from the hot shoe.

Record - picture wizard GIF.jpg
Picture Wizard allows you to apply tweaks to your images as you're shooting them. For example, in Vivid mode the colors will appear brighter than what you normally might see in a standard photo. The Picture Wizard options are:

  • Off
  • Standard
  • Vivid
  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Forest
  • Retro
  • Cool
  • Calm
  • Classic
  • Custom 1
  • Custom 2
  • Custom 3

Record - smart filter GIF.jpg
With Smart Filter mode you can add a variety of special effects to the images as you shoot them. These Smart Filters are a fun way to add a certain look to the image, such as a vignetting effect where the edges of the image are darkened. The Smart Filter options are:

  • Off
  • Vignetting
  • Miniature
  • Colored Pencil
  • Watercolor
  • Wash Drawing
  • Oil Sketch
  • Ink Sketch
  • Acryl
  • Negative
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Yellow

Record - movie GIF.gif
Movie recording with the Samsung NX2000 is an easy process, no matter what still image mode you're using. Just press the red movie record button on the far right side of the back of the NX2000's camera body.

When you begin recording, you'll see the time that has elapsed in the recording in the upper left corner and a pause button in the lower left corner. Touch the pause button to pause the recording. When the video is paused, you'll then see a record button in the lower left corner, and the recording will begin again when you touch this button.

Record - touch screen GIF.jpg
You can control how the touch screen works with the NX2000's autofocus options by touching the Touch AF control button in the lower right corner, marked with a finger icon. Your touch AF options are:

  • Off
  • Touch AF - Use the touch screen to select an autofocus point
  • Tracking AF - Use the touch screen to select an autofocus point to track
  • One Touch Shot - Record an image by touching the screen

Record - main menu GIF.gif
Samsung has done a good job of designing the NX2000's various menus for use with a touch screen. They're well organized and it's easy to work through the menus and sub-menus to find the feature that you want to use. From most of the shooting modes, just touch the Menu button in the lower left corner of the touch screen LCD to open image control menu.

The four tabs along the left side of the screen organize the different menu options. The camera tab at the top controls shooting options, the movie tab controls movie options, the person tab has customizable features, and the gear tab controls the operational settings for the NX2000.
