Playback Screens & Menus

Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The Galaxy Camera kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.

The configuration of the Playback screen that Samsung included with the Galaxy Camera is pretty basic. You won't find a lot of clutter on the screen. To access the stored photos, press the Home icon. From the Home screen, touch the Gallery icon.

You'll then see the Albums screen, through which you can select a set of stored images or videos. The Galaxy Camera automatically will sort the images and videos by the type of image or type of download.

With a single image on the screen, you can scroll to the next image by dragging your finger across the screen. Or you can call up the thumbnail images of other stored images across the bottom of the screen and control icons across the top of the screen by just touching the screen anywhere inside the image. The icons in the upper right corner of the screen are:

  • Share Via - Bluetooth, ChatON, Dropbox, Email, Gmail, Google+, Group Play, Instagram, Picasa, S Memo, Wi-Fi Direct
  • Gmail
  • Delete
  • Edit Menu - (discussed later)

You can use natural touchscreen motions to control the image on the screen, such as the pinch motion where you drag your index finger and thumb together to zoom into an image and where you pull apart your index finger and thumb to zoom out.

When you tap on the edit command, you'll see the Details option. Tap Details and you'll see information about the image that's currently on the screen, including ISO, EV, aperture, shutter speed, flash mode, file number, image type, time and date, album sorted into, size of image, resolution, orientation, camera manufacturer, camera model, lens focal length, white balance, and storage path.

In addition to being able to zoom in and out of the image by touching the screen with a pinching motion, you also can zoom in and out with the zoom ring. Once you've zoomed in, you can drag your finger tip across the screen to adjust the portion of the zoomed image that's visible on the screen.

Playback GIF - organize.gif
You can organize your Galaxy Camera images in what Samsung calls Albums. The camera's software automatically sorts each photo into an album, but you can change the Album options from the main Gallery screen. Touch the folder icon in the upper right corner to create a new album name. You then can select images and copy them into the new album using the touchscreen or by using the menu icon in the upper right corner.

From the main Gallery screen, you also can set up a slideshow with the menu icon.

With a single image on the screen, you can edit your images by applying some special effects. Inside the menu icon, touch the Edit menu option. You then can select to use the Photo Wizard, which provides the more common editing options such as Transform or Color, or the Paper Artist, which provides some less common special effect options.

The full Edit menu list with a single image displayed on the screen is:

  • Edit - Photo Wizard, Paper Artist
  • Details
  • Slideshow - Start Slideshow, Slideshow Settings
  • Favorites
  • Play Continuous Shot
  • Face Tag - On, Off

Playback GIF - movie.gif
When you want to play back a movie in Gallery mode, you'll see a large play icon in the middle of the screen. Tap it with your finger and the video will begin to play. You'll see a timing bar across the bottom of the screen showing you the full video time and how much time has elapsed. You can pause, fast forward, or rewind the movie using the icons along the bottom of the screen.

You also can play the movie at a smaller size inside the main movie screen by tapping the icon in the lower right of the movie screen, or you can capture a still image from the video while it's playing by tapping the camera icon in the upper middle portion of the screen during the movie -- "Captured" then will appear across the bottom of the screen.

There is a movie playback menu available by tapping the menu icon in the upper right corner when a movie is visible on the screen.
