Samsung Digimax L60 Review

The Digimax L60 is equipped with a 3X SHD zoom lens, 5.8–17.4mm (equivalent to 35 – 105mm in 35mm format) f/2.8 – f/4.9, multi-coated all glass lens with aspherical elements.  When powered down the lens automatically retracts and is protected by a built-in lens cap.

Featuring a TTL contrast detection AF system combined with a low-light focus assist illuminator with an unspecified range. The user can manually operate the focus with an onscreen distance guide.

Autofocus Range:

Normal: 80cm to infinity.
Macro: 5cm to 80cm (Wide), 40cm to 80cm (Tele).
Auto Mode: 5 cm ~ Infinity (Wide), 40 cm ~ Infinity (Tele)

The built-in flash has modes for Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Slow sync, and Flash Off. Working range in wide angle is approx. 7.8 in. to 9.8 ft. (0.2 to 3.0m), telephoto is 1.3 ft. to 6.6 ft. (0.4 to 2.0m), using ISO Auto. Recharge time is approx. 4 seconds with fully charged battery and 5 seconds with a low battery.

Here you can see the high-resolution 2.4-inch color LCD monitor, which takes up nearly 2/3 of the back of the camera. The various controls are illustrated below.

Controls on the back: At the top are the zoom controls, which also function as the image Index and Magnify buttons in play mode. Along the left are the "M"ode button to switch between still and movie record, the "E"ffects button for adding unique looks to you images, and the +/- button, which allows you to quickly change RGB, ISO, White balance, and Exposure compensation settings. In playback mode it also acts as the image delete button.

The 4-way selector controller is for navigating menu options, press the MENU/OK button in the center to call up the menu and accept a selection. Press "Right" to activate the Self-timer, press "Down" to enable Macro mode, press "Left" to change flash modes and press "Up" to enable sound recording.

On top you'll find the built-in microphone for recording audio as well as the power On/Off switch and shutter release.

Images, movies and sound clips are stored on either the 23MB of internal memory or a SD or MMC memory card (not included.)

The I/O port is located on the right-hand side of the camera. The miniature connector is for both the USB 2.0 data cable and the Audio / Video cable for connection to a TV set.

The Digimax L60 is powered by the included SLB-0837 3.7V 860mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery pack that Samsung claims is good for up to 190 shots or 84 minutes of video. Also included is a small AC charger (with cord.)
