Features & Controls
The Schneider 3X Varioplan Zoom 7-21mm (34-102mm 35mm equivalent) is an all-glass aspherical lens with 1.5X and 2X digital telephoto. The maximum aperture is F2.6 - F4.7.
The focusing range in standard AF mode is 31 inches to infinity. The dedicated Macro mode is not a fixed focus distance as some previous models have been. Macro is 8 inches to 31 inches in AF or Manual Focus.
The lens retracts into the body when powered down and is protected by a built-in
lens cap. It is not threaded for filters or accessory lenses.
The eyelevel optical real-image zoom viewfinder has a field of view of approx. 80% of the
captured image. Two LEDs are used to indicate focus and flash status, they also indicate
Movie recording is active or the camera is writing to the memory card.
There is no dioptric adjustment.
The built-in flash has modes for Auto flash, Auto flash with red-eye Reduction, Fill-
flash, Fill-flash with red-eye Reduction or Flash Cancel and slow shutter synchronization
flash. The working range of the flash is 8 inches to 9.8
feet in wide angle and 8 inches to 6.5 feet in telephoto. With a fully charged set of
batteries the flash recycle time is approx. 7 seconds if maximum flash output is needed.
On the top is the Mode Dial with positions for Record, Night Scene, Movie, SETup, Connect to PC and Play.
In the center of the Mode Dial is the shutter release, just below is the microphone and
to the left is the speaker.
On the back is the red Power on/off button. Next to that is the zoom lens control which
functions as the magnified and index controls in playback. The LCD button turns the color
LCD on/off and also controls the display of overlay information. The 4-way selector lets you
navigate menus in record and play modes. The center functions as the OK button to accept
selections. The 4-way selector is also used for changing flash modes, metering mode,
enabling the self-timer and the voice annotation function. The MENU button calls up the
onscreen menus. Below that is the Focus mode button with Macro and Landscape options, in
playback it lets you delete the current image.
On the back is a 1.5" color TFT LCD monitor with 117,000 pixel resolution, it can be used
as a live viewfinder or for image review or accessing the menu system.
The I/O ports are found behind a rubber flap on the side and include a 6v DC input jack for the optional AC power adapter
The Digimax 350 is equipped with a CompactFlash Type I card slot and is supplied with a
16MB CF card. The CF card is accessed through the battery compartment on the bottom.
Power is supplied by two disposable CR-V3 battaries or four AA type batteries, high-capacity NiMH rechargeable AA type are strongly recommended. The camera can be powered by alkaline type AA batteries (included) in a pinch but don't expect much runtime from them.
