While shooting with the GXR, you have the option of 3 different screen views with either no information, a grid for framing your images or a full list of detailed shooting information. The shots above are of Program mode and show the number of remaining shots, Image size, Focus, flash and steady shot information. When in the grid mode, there are three different grid formats that can be selected. The green bar in the middle is a level assist, that allows you to always make sure that your shots are level. The information shown is very close to the same for all of the shooting modes. The only differences are the lack of shutter and aperture settings that will be shown in Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes.

ricoh_gxr_rec_ready.JPGWhen you half-press the shutter, the camera will display the focus area, which is the green rectangle, as well as the aperture and shutter speed information. If the camera fails to achieve focus, the rectangle will turn red.

ricoh_gxr_rec_direct.JPGSimulating the information screen on a dSLR camera, pressing the DIRECT button on the GXR will bring up this screen. Here you have easy access to your exposure compensation, ISO, White Balance, Focus, Metering, Image Color Mode, Flash settings (if the flash is open), Image size and quality, bracketing and burst shooting.

ricoh_gxr_rec_8way_anim.gifThe 8-way controller allows you to navigate through your menus and search your recorded images. You can even scroll through an image when zoomed in not just laterally, but on diagonals as well. These buttons also work as shortcuts to the exposure compensation by pressing up or down, right for Manual Flash Amount and Left to set the Manual Focus Adjustment.

ricoh_gxr_rec_adj_anim.gifThe adjust lever also acts as a shortcut to the White Balance, ISO, Image size and quality, Image color mode and AF/AE options.

ricoh_gxr_rec_scenes.JPGTo help with difficult shooting situations, Ricoh has included a few "Scene" shooting modes: Movie, Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Nightscape, Skew COrrect mode and Zoom macro.
