Panasonic announced today the latest addition into its G-Series line of compact digital cameras with an interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens system. Ergonomically designed to fit in the palm of your hand, the LUMIX DMC-GX1 features a 16.01 megapixel Live MOS sensor and the powerful Venus Engine image processor which allows low light images to be taken at a 12800 ISO.
Equally made for beginners and those looking to have more control of imagery, the GX1 has two automatic shooting modes (iA and iA Plus). Its Light Speed AF (Auto Focus) clocks in at 0.09 seconds; this is accomplished by synchronizing the lens and sensor at 120 frames per second. The GX1 also uses a Contrast AF system, which is 90% accurate at F1.4 versus 60% of the older Phase difference system AF. Next we have AFF Mode (Auto Focus Flexible); meaning, focus locks when the shutter button is half-pressed, but remains active should the subject move.
The GX1 captures Full HD video (1920 x 1080 60i or 30p) in Dolby Digital Stereo. The video mode has the option to run full time AF, or Touch AF, which allows "professional rack focus" shots. And, all your shots will be level thanks to the new Level Gauge.
The LUMIX DMC-GX1 is designed to work with ALL G-series and Olympus Micro Four Thirds lenses or, using an optional adapter, any Four Thirds lens. The G-series currently has 14 lenses, including the power zoom X, standard zoom, telephoto zoom, single focal length, wide angle, fish eye, and a 3D lens. The GX1 also accepts a wide variety of optional accessories, including external flashes, PL filters, ND filters, MC protectors, remote shutters, zoom level, and via the hot shoe, an optional tilt-shift Live View Finder (DMW-LVF2).
