Move over Panasonic LUMIX FZ super-zooms, you've got a new sibling in town, the DMC-FZ150. With its 12.1 megapixel, 1/2.3 MOS image sensor, the DMC-FZ150 features a state of the are 24x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens (the 35mm equivalent of 25-600mm). Meaning, it has both Nano Surface Coating technology (to reduce flaring in normal settings) and the new 3D Photo Mode, which works by taking 20 panning shots and then automatically selecting "the two most suitable images -- one for the right eye and one for the left eye -- to synthesize a 3D composite." To view 3D pictures, you'll need a compatible 3DTV; it's no surprise that Panasonic recommends their own VIERA televisions for this purpose.
Panasonic's Venus Engine means the FZ150 is fast, in both AF (Auto Focus) terms as well as start up times. Video fans will love the full 1080p HD video recording at 60 frames per second (an upgrade from the previous model -- DMC-FZ47
) as well as stereo sound and the ability to, while shooting video, also take a 3.5-megapixel still image. The camera also sports Panasonic's well known POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) system.
If you like to customize your shots with various styles and color, the FZ150 includes new Creative Control (Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, Miniature Effect, FIlm Grain, Pin Hole) and Photo Style (Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait) preset options. Also handy/fun are Motion Deblur and Intelligent Handheld Nightshot Mode, which "generates beautiful night scenery with illumination by layering multiple images shot consecutively."
If you'd rather the camera to do all the hard work for you, no problem. Intelligent Scene Selector helps to optimize video and still by automatically switching between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes. And FZ150 also features iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, which monitors your shooting situations and adjusts accordingly. iA Mode also works with video.
The FZ150 has a number of optional accessories including a flash (DMW-FL220/FL360/FL500) and a stereo microphone (DMW-MS1) -- both are easy to use thanks to the built in hot shoe. The FZ150 also works well with the optional remote shutter (DMWRSL1).
