The SIMPLE record screen display. This is the "point-n-shoot" mode where the camera sets everything for the user automatically. See the next frame for the simplified menu options.

Pressing the MENU button in SIMPLE mode brings up this abbreviated menu screen. PICT. MODE selects the image size from ENLARGE (2304x1728), 4x6" (1280x960) or Internet (640x480). AUTO REVIEW (show image after capture) On or Off. BEEP (camera button sounds) On or Off. And CLOCK SET to set the time/date.

The screen display in normal Record mode. Icons for Auto flash mode, image size 2304 x 1728, Fine quality, battery level and 144 pictures remaining. The realtime histogram option is enabled.

When you half-press the shutter release the focus (green dot and brackets) and exposure is locked and the seleted shutter speed and aperture is displayed.

Press the 4-way controller "Up" when in record mode to change the exposure compensation value (+/- 2.0EV) or to enable the Auto Exposure Bracketing feature and set the step value (1/3, 2/3 or 1 EV).

The FX5 has a respectable Macro (close-up) focus mode, in wide angle it can focus as close as 3.9 inches. The flash throttles down well to keep from over-exposing subjects as close as about six inches.

In the Review option is enabled then the last picture captured is automatically displayed for one or three seconds. You can manually initiate Review Mode by pressing the 4-way controller "Down."

Movie record mode screen. Recording size is 320x240 with either a 30 or 10 frame per second capture rate. Audio is recorded. The total amount of recording time available is shown below the battery meter (there is a 256MB SD card in our camera.) The length of each movie clip is limited only by the amount of available memory. The optical zoom is not useable in movie mode, you can use the digital zoom if desired.

W.BALANCE

ISO SENSITIVITY - Auto, 50, 100, 200, 400

PICT.SIZE - 2304x1728, 1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480

QUALITY - Fine or Standard

SPOT MODE - Spot Metering; On or Off

AUDIO REC. - Record 5-sec of audio with still images; On or Off

AF TRIGGER - Start AF with shutter or Focus button

D.ZOOM - Enable or disable digital zoom option

COL.EFFECT - Off, Cool, Warm, B/W

PICT.ADJ - Color saturation; Natural, Standard, Vivid

FLIP ANIMATION - Create small 320x240 animations in-camera

The SETUP menu:

MONITOR - Adjust LCD backlight

AUTO REVIEW - Display image after capture; Off, 1sec, 3sec

BEEP - Button beep sounds; Off, On, Louder

POWER SAVE - Off, 2min, 5min, 10min

NO.RESET - Reset the file numbers

CAMERA RESET - Reset all settings to default

CLOCK SET - Set time and date

USB MODE - Mass Storage or PictBridge

LANGUAGE - Menu language
