Olympus_TG-870_GRN_RIGHT_500.jpgOlympus continues to expand their "Tough" line of lifeproof digital cameras, with the TG-870 being their newest addition for 2016. The Tough TG-870 builds upon the TG-860 we tested in 2015, with a few new upgrades. Of these is the inclusion of a brighter 180 degree tilting LCD screen, expanded GPS functionality, and the addition of some new shooting models; like Nighttime Live Composite.

The TG-870 continues the use of a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS image sensor and 5x internal optical zoom lens (same as the TG-860), and it also shares the same lifeproof specifications. These include being waterproof down to 50 feet, shockproof from a 7 foot fall, freezeproof down to -10°C, and crushproof up to 220 pounds.

The TG-870 also continues to offer built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, however Olympus has enhanced the TG-870's GPS functionality with the camera now using both GLONASS and QZSS GPS satellites. Olympus notes this "next-generation" GPS system allows for faster positioning, in under 10 seconds.
