Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The Olympus SP-100 kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.
To enter Playback mode with the Olympus SP-100EE, press the Playback button on the back of the camera. With a single image displayed on the screen press the Info button to change the information that's displayed. You can choose a blank screen, a minimal information screen, and a detailed information screen.
Even the detailed information screen contains only the basic shooting information though, including the ISO, white balance, shutter speed, and aperture settings. You'll see a small histogram too.
If you want to scroll through your images more quickly, press the zoom ring to the left with a single image displayed on the screen. You'll then see a 4x5 grid of thumbnail images on the screen. Use the four-way button to highlight any thumbnail and then press OK to bring the thumbnail to a full screen view.
Most cameras offer more grid options, but Olympus only offers a 4x5 grid option with the SP-100.
Use the SP-100's Playback magnify feature to ensure that you have a sharp focus in your stored images. With a single image on the screen, press the zoom ring to the right to magnify the current view. Use the four-way button to change the portion of the scene displayed on the screen. The rectangle in the upper right corner represents the full photo, while the small white box inside the rectangle represents the current view. Ten levels of magnification are available.
The SP-100EE offers a few very basic editing options in Playback mode, including:
- Shadow Adjustment
- Red-eye Fix
I was surprised Olympus didn't include at least one additional editing option by allowing you to add an Art Filter to the images from Playback mode. That option would make the SP-100 a little more fun to use.
To delete an image from the memory card, have the image displayed on the screen in Playback mode and press the downward four-way button to delete the image.
To enter the Playback Menu press the Menu button while in Playback mode. The Playback Menu is indicated by the Playback icon on the left side of the screen. As with all of the other menus with the Olympus SP-100EE, the options here are very limited. The Playback Menu options are:
- Slideshow - BGM (Off, Cosmic, Breeze, Mellow, Dreamy, Urban), Start
- Edit - Resize (3M, VGA), Crop, Audio (add a 4 second audio clip), Shadow Adj, Red-eye Fix, Rotate, e-Portrait
- Erase - All Erase, Sel. Image, Erase
- Print Order - 1 Frame, All Frames
- Upload Order
With a movie displayed on the SP-100's screen in Playback mode, you can choose what information is displayed about the movie by pressing the Info button, just as you did with still images.
When you're ready to play the movie on the display screen, just press the OK button. A status bar will appear on the bottom of the screen, along with the time elapsed, as the movie plays.
