The Stylus 770 is equipped with an Olympus aspherical glass 3.6x "Wide" zoom lens covering 5.0 - 18.2mm (28 - 102mm equivalent in 35mm photography). It is made up of 10 elements in 8 groups with 4 aspherical lenses and 2ED lenses. It has a 5x digital zoom feature. The maximum aperture is F3.5 (W) / F5.1 (T). The lens zooms internally and is protected by a sliding lens barrier when powered down.

The built in speedlight features Auto, Red-eye reduction, Fill and Forced Off modes. To the right is the LED illuminator, which can be used as the Self-timer light, a Focus assist lamp, as well as a flash light. The camera does not automatically use the LED as an AF assist lamp, except in S-Macro LED focus mode. You have to manually turn it on in all other modes. The LED lamp can even be enabled while the camera is off, allowing you to use it as a flash light.

On the top is the Power button and Shutter Release.
There is no optical viewfinder, you frame, review and perform menu operations on this large 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD II monitor with approx. 230,000 pixels of resolution. Olympus claims their new HyperCrystall II screens offer true colors with a dynamic contrast ratio of more than 180 percent and a color reproduction performance of more than 160 percent compared to the original HyperCrystal LCD displays.
Controls on the back: Top is the zoom control which also functions as the magnified playback and index mode
when in play mode. The Mode dial has positions for Auto, Program, Blur Reduction (uses Digital Image
Stabilization), SCeNe, Guide, Movie, Favorites, and Playback. Next is the 4-way selector, which is used to
navigate menu screens and select images for playback. In record mode the "Up" button changes exposure
compensation, "Left" enables the macro focus modes, "Right" changes the flash mode and the "Down" button
enables the self-timer. The OK/FUNCtion button accepts menu selections and gives access to the Function
shortcut menu. The MENU button calls up and dismisses the menu system. There's also a dedicated Playback
mode button, which also allows you to choose the DPOF settings in playback mode. The DISPlay button
controls the amount of information displayed on the camera's LCD in both record and playback mode as well
as acts as the help function when navigating the menu. Lastly, we have the Shadow Adjustment mode button
(On or Off), which also acts as the delete button in review mode.
The multi I/O connector on the side handles not only the USB 2.0 (High-speed) connectivity and Audio/Video output (NTSC or PAL), but also 4.8V DC Input when using the optional DC Coupler CB-MA1.
A black rubber O-ring covers the I/O port when the door is snapped shut. The Door features a locking
mechanism to ensure the door shuts and is water tight. The Stylus 1030 SW is Waterproof, allowing you to
submerge the camera up to 33ft (10m).
Still images and movie clips are stored in the camera's 14.7MB of internal memory or on removable xD- Picture Card flash memory cards up to 2GB. Olympus also claims the Stylus 1030 SW is compatible with microSD cards when using the MASD-1 adapter.
Power is supplied by a proprietary LI-50B 3.7v 925mAh Li-ion battery pack. Olympus claims a fully charged
pack will allow you to capture up to 260 shots. The included LI-50C AC charger lets you recharge one
battery while using another. Lithium battery packs can be charged or "topped off" at any time without
shortening the service life of the battery.
The optional Olympus PT-041 underwater housing is made specifically for the Stylus 1030 SW - so you can take your camera with you on your underwater excursions. The large 2.7-inch LCD, compact body size and four underwater scene modes make it the perfect camera to take along diving.
The PT-041 underwater case is waterproof up to a water pressure equivalent to a depth of 40 meters. This case is perfect for fascinating underwater photography or capturing the thrill of water sports and activities. With its durable, high quality polycarbonate construction, it protects the camera from water while also cushioning it from knocks and bumps on land. Complete control of photo functions, such as zoom and flash mode, is also permitted.
