Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

Rotating the Mode dial to the GUIDE position will bring up the built-in Shooting Guide on the LCD screen. There are 16 selections to choose from. The Shooting Guide not only provides detailed descriptions for various shooting environments, but also automatically sets the camera up for that specific situation by pressing "Right" on the 4-way controller.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

The Auto record mode is a fully automatic mode that allows the camera to choose all settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, white balance, etc.), and lets novice users simply select the desired image quality and "point-n-shoot."

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

Here you can see the Program exposure mode, in the center are the auto focus target marks, and across the bottom is image quality, Fine Quality (10-megapixels) and there's enough space on our xD card for 72 pictures. The "shaky hand symbol" indicates that Image Stabilization is On, and the flash is Off.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

When you half-press the shutter release it starts the autofocus process and if it locks you'll get the "focus OK" green icon (top left). If autofocus fails, the green focus indicator will flash.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

In Aperture priority mode you select the desired aperture and the camera automatically sets the correct shutter speed. A small aperture (larger f/number) increases the depth of field (range of focus), where a large aperture (smaller f/number) decreases depth of field. Aperture (f/3.3 here) is adjusted by first pressing "Up", then using the "Up and Down" buttons of the 4-way controller. Pressing the "Left and Right" buttons adjusts the exposure compensation. The live viewfinder image displays the effect of the selected exposure compensation value.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

Shutter-speed priority mode you select the shutter speed and the camera selects the correct aperture. Select a fast shutter speed to freeze fast-moving subjects or use a slower shutter speed to capture flowing water or low-light subjects. Settings are changed just like Aperture priority mode.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

In Manual mode you select both shutter speed (up/down) and aperture value (left/right), the exposure value is displayed constantly (if not 0.0) so you can adjust the values to achieve the proper exposure.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

You can access a variety of Scene modes by rotating the Mode dial to the SCN position. As you go through the Scene selections an image depicting the mode is shown and then a brief text explanation of the mode is presented (shown above.) You can choose from 23 different exposure modes: Portrait, Landscape, Landscape & Portrait, Sport, Night Scene, Night & Portrait, Indoor, Candle, Self-Portrait, Available Light Portrait, Sunset, Fireworks, Multi Fireworks, Cuisine, Behind Glass, Documents, Auction, Shoot & Select1, Shoot & Select2, Beach, Snow, Smile Shot and Quick Shutter.

Olympus SP-570 UltraZoom

Pressing the 4-way controller to the right is a shortcut to the cameras flash settings. To the left controls the macro mode and down sets the self timer.

Movie mode lets you capture VGA (640x480) or QVGA (320x240) resolution motion video at 15fps or 30fps with sound. The length of a movie is limited only by the available memory (2GB max. clip length). If the movie is recorded with sound (enabled via the Rec. Menu), the optical zoom may not be used during recording. However, you can preset the desired focal length before starting to record a movie.
