Olympus 3x zoom lens (5.4 - 16.2mm), F2.8/4.4 (equivalent to 35mm - 105mm on a 35mm camera)

Stepless 1x - 3x digital zoom. TTL system auto focus (contrast detection system) with focusing range: 8" (0.2m) ~ infinity.

The zoom lens control is located on the top, next to the shutter release.

In Play mode this also selects the zoom-in (magnify) and index modes.

The D-510Z has a large and bright optical finder complete with a diopter control adjustment knob on the side.

The green LED indicates a focus lock and the amber LED tells you the status of the flash.

Builtin multi-mode intelligent speedlight; Auto (automatic flash activation in low light and backlight), red-eye reduction, fill-in (forced activation), night scene (first curtain sync), night scene+redeye reduction, off (no flash).

Working flash range: Wideangle 0.2 - 4 m. Tele: approx. 0.2 - 2.6 m (at ISO 100).

On the back is a 1.8-inch/4.5cm color TFT LCD monitor and the majority of the camera's controls. The 4-way switch lets you navigate menus (see next page) and select playback images, enable macro mode, enable self-timer, select the desired flash mode, delete images and lock or unlock images. Below that is the MENU button which also serves as the OK (accept selection) button. On the bottom is the MONITOR button that controls the color LCD.

On the left side are the I/O ports:

The D-510Z stores its images on 3.3v SmartMedia cards. On the back side of the handgrip is the card slot which accepts any size up to 128MB. Olympus includes an 8MB card with panorama function.

The D-510Z is powered by four AA size batteries (NiMH prefered but not supplied) or two of the Olympus CR-V3 one-use lithium. The battery door has a safety latch and thanks to the side by side design, battery changes can be swift.
