Nikon D60

Nikon Software Suite

The D60 came with a new version of the Nikon Software Suite on a CD. The Suite consists of Quicktime 7, the Nikon Transfer utility and ViewNX software. You can choose to install any or all of the applications.

Nikon Desktop Icons

After installation there were 2 new software icons on my Windows Vista desktop.

Nikon Transfer

Nikon Transfer is a basic program that allows you to import and manage files from the D60.

Nikon ViewNX

ViewNX expands upon the abilities of Transfer allowing you to rotate, compress for e-mail, create a slide show and convert images from your D60. And ViewNX displays camera settings and provides a utility for Quick Adjustments to the images. ViewNX allows you to convert RAW NEF files to JPEG and TIFF formats with ease. You can even adjust white balance and exposure compensation.

ViewNX is available for PC (Vista, XP and Windows 2000) and Macintosh (Mac OS X).

Of course, as we have seen with most of the newest cameras, you don't have to install any software if you're using Windows Vista The D60 was correctly identified by Windows and the files imported to Photo Gallery. In Photo Gallery you can perform minor editing, print photos, compress for e-mail and burn copies onto discs.

Nikon PictureProject

And we noticed the Mac did not want to be left out either - iPhoto correctly identified the D60, imported the photos and provided full access to OS X Leopard's new retouch capabilities.
