The 18x optical NIKKOR ED zoom lens on the CoolPix S9100 has a 35mm
equivalent of 25-450mm. It is made up of 12 elements in 11 groups and has
a maximum aperture of f/3.5. To help steady your handheld images, the
camera also features sensor shift and electronic VR, which helps ensure crisp images,
even in lower-light situations. When the camera is powered down, the
lens folds up into the camera body for protection

Normal: 1ft. 8in. to infinity (W) - 5ft. to infinity
Macro: 1.6in. to infinity
The small, pop-up flash unit is not very powerful with a maximum range of just 13ft. (W) at ISO auto. However, this TTL flash will be useful when up close for portrait images

Controls on back: At the top right you can see the side of the mode selection button, which is the only control on top of the camera along with the Shutter Release and zoom controls. At the top right of the back is the dedicated video recording button. At the bottom is the playback button, 4-way controller, menu and delete buttons. The 4-way controller also features a rotary dial that allows for faster selections of the menu items. Pressing the 4-way controller up gives you the flash settings, right handles exposure compensation, down are the macro settings and left is the self-timer.
Found on the bottom and right side of the camera are its I/O ports. On the right side is the HDMI output that allows you to view your images and videos on a HDTV. On the bottom is the USB 2.0 port that allows you to connect to a computer or standard definition TV.
Storing your images is mainly done on a SD/SDHC/SDXC card in the camera. There is also approx. 74MB of internal memory, but this will only hold a few images. The camera is shown here with a PNY Professional Class 10, 8GB SDHC card.
