Nikon Coolpix S3100 Preview
By Mike Flacy

Just underneath the S6100 and the S4100, the Nikon S3100 is the entry-level camera within their new S series announcements. The S3100 has the same 14-Megapixel resolution as the S4100, but does not include touch screen functionality. Instead, the S3100 comes equipped with a 2.7" LCD with a 230K dot resolution.
Like the other two S models, the S3100 shoots 720p HD video and comes with all the same auto adjustments for different facial expressions and scene selections. It comes equipped with a 5x optical zoom and up to 4x digital zoom. The camera also comes in a wider variety of colors than the S6100 or S4100.
Nikon COOLPIX S3100 features:
- 14-megapixel 1/2.3" CCD image sensor
- 5x optical zoom (28-130mm equivalent zoom range)
- Up to 4x Digital Zoom
- 2.7-inch LCD Screen (230,000 dot resolution)
- 720p HD video recording
- In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority AF, Face Priority AE, Smile Mode, Blink Warning and Skin Softening modes
- Scene Auto Selector / Easy Auto Mode
- SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot
- Li-ion battery pack
The Nikon COOLPIX S3100 will be released in late February 2011, with seven color options to choose from; Black, Silver, Red, Blue, Purple, Pink and Yellow. The COOLPIX S3100 digital camera will have a MSRP of $139.95 US.
