The built-in speedlight has a shooting range of approx. (W) 2.0ft. to 15.0 ft. (0.6 to 4.6m), (T) 2.0 ft. to 8.0 ft. (0.6 to 2.5m) at ISO Auto. Available mode are: Auto Flash, Red-Eye Reduction, Fill Flash, Disabled or Slow Sync.
On the top is the Power button and Shutter Release with zoom control.
On the back is a large 2.5 TFT-LCD monitor with approximately 150,000 pixels. This is your only option for framing and viewing your images.
Controls on the back: At the top Record and Play buttons. The 4-way selector in Record mode toggles the flash mode when pressed 'Up.' When pressed 'Right' it adjusts exposure compensation, 'Left' to activate the Self-timer and press 'Down' to enable Marco focus mode. In Playback mode the 4-way selector is used to select images and in both record and play is used to navigate the menu screens. The MENU/Set button calls up and dismisses the menu system as well as accepts menu selections. The Menu button brings up your menu options in both record and playback mode. Finally in the bottom right corner you see the delete button.
The USB connector on the bottom not only allows you to transfer your images to your computer, but you can also plug it into your tv with the included A/V cable.
Still images and movie clips are stored on 44MB of internal flash memory or removable SD, SDHC, or MMC memory cards. Shown here with a fast and spacious SanDisk Ultra II 4GB SDHC card.
The S230 is powered by a proprietary EN-EL10 rechargeable Li-Ion battery that is charged in the included MH-63 battery charger. Nikon claims this pack provides approx. 180 shots (CIPA standard) per charge. An optional power adapter EH-62D allows the camera to be powered from an A/C wall outlet.
