Record Mode Screens & Menus
"Auto" record mode allows the camera to select all of the settings for you. Here you see it shows icons for the mode, flash, image size (8MP), number of images (796), AF mode, and battery levels.
When you half-press the shutter to achieve the focus and exposure lock. It also shows the date and time.
Scene mode lets you select from: portrait, sports, landscape, close-up, night portrait, night landscape, snow, beach, text/document, fireworks, flower, museum/manner, self portrait, high ISO, digital IS, children, backlight, panning, candlelight, sunset, custom, panorama. As you navigate the menu, a description of each mode and hints for using it are presented.
Auto menu options:
Picture Size - 8.0 MP, 7.1 MP(3:2 aspect ratio), 5.3 MP(3:2) , 5MP, 3.1 MP, 2.5, 2.1, 1.2 MP Long Time Exposure - Used for shooting in the dark without a flash. Up to 8 seconds Color Mode - High, Natural, Low, Black & White, Sepia AF Control - Continuous, Single Digital Zoom - On, Off Date Stamp - On, Off
In Auto mode, you are able to choose from several shooting features to help improve your photographs.
Face Detect Capture - Allows camera to find and focus on up to 10 faces. ISO Speed - Auto, 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200 Sharpness - High, Normal, Low Red Eye Preflash - On, Off Blur Warning - On, Off Maintain Settings - Pick which settings you want the camera to remember.
You can record VGA 640 x 480, 640 x 480 long, or QVGA 320 x 240 motion video with audio. The length
of the movies is dependent on available space on your memory card. The optical zoom works while recording but you can hear a slight motor whine from it on audio.
There is also an optional image stabilizer, but it will decrease video quality slightly.
