General Electric (GE) is one of the largest corporations in the world, and it should come as no surprise that their brand extends to digital cameras. General Electric was established in 1892 from the merger of two companies, one of which was founded by none other than Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb. Naturally, their main business was incandescent lighting. Over a hundred years later, the Connecticut-based multinational is diversified across several industry sectors and a leading researcher in science and technology.

In 2007, GE made its first splash into the digital camera market. It was the first time that GE, well into the second century of its existence, had released any line of consumer cameras. Under exclusive license from GE, a California company called General Imaging would actually design and manufacture GE digital cameras. General Imaging was formed in 2006 by photo industry veterans from many of the traditional camera makers.

The current GE camera range is spread across three series, and models sport popular digicam features like face detection, image stabilization, and auto scene detection. The E Series is their mid-priced line with high resolutions, slim metal bodies, and touch screens. GE's budget models are found in the A Series. The G Series, known as the Active Series, includes the company's first waterproof camera.
