Quick Take
Pros
  • Extremely high image quality, even at upper level ISO settings
  • Excellent low-light performance
  • Innovative hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, which is one of the most interesting viewfinder designs on the market
  • Up to 6 frames per second continuous shooting mode at full resolution
  • Sharp autofocus mode
  • Manual focus mode available
  • Built-in neutral density filter
  • Large and sharp LCD screen
  • Plenty of special effect shooting options, including various film simulations
  • Great retro design with plenty of dials, buttons and toggle switches
  • Q screen provides quick access to camera's settings
  • Many manual control options available
  • Easy to hold and use this camera comfortably because of button layout
  • Built-in wireless connectivity
Cons
  • Lack of any optical zoom capability limits the camera's flexibility
  • No image stabilization feature
  • Autofocus is accurate but works slowly for some scenes
  • Embedded flash is built into the front of the camera body
  • Thick camera that doesn't fit well in a pocket
  • No tilt option for LCD screen
  • So many dials and buttons that you'll need to practice with this model for a while to take full advantage of its features
  • Too easy to bump EV dial out of position, resulting in undesirable settings
  • Menu structure could be better organized
  • When using viewfinder with left eye, you'll leave "nose prints" in middle of LCD screen
  • Camera body isn't weather sealed
  • Very high price tag
Bottom Line
Fujifilm has created another very powerful fixed lens camera with the X100T, building on its two predecessors (X100 and X100S). Its image quality is outstanding, but because of the absence of an optical zoom lens, this camera is at its best when you can move close to the subject and shoot portrait or landscape type photos. It's impossible to recommend this model as a good all-around camera because of the lack of a zoom lens. Portrait and landscape photos will look great with this model, but you will struggle when involved in sports photography, for example, because of no telephoto option. The X100T has a fast f/2 lens, making it easy to blur the background with a shallow depth of field, which is again great for portraits. The retro design is cool, but the camera does have a few design quirks. Then there's the price tag of over $1,000, which will keep it well beyond the budget of many people. The X100T is a great camera, but it's only going to meet the needs of a limited pool of photographers. Read more in our Full Conclusion.

During the summer of 2014, Fujifilm announced their new flagship X100T premium compact camera with an improved Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder with Electronic Rangefinder that's akin to using a mechanical rangefinder for pulling focus. There's also real-time parallax correction for more accurate compositions, and Focus Peak Highlight and Digital Split Image options, and Shooting Effect Reflection which allows the viewfinder to recreate optional effects and film simulation modes (like the new Chrome Film simulation).

The heart of every X100T is the 16.3MP APS-C size X-Trans CMOS II sensor, mated to the EXR Processor II and a FUJINON 23mm (35mm equivalent) F2 lens with an ND filter equivalent to 3 stops of aperture. This camera is capable of 0.08 second AutoFocus times, 05 second start up, a 0.5 second shooting interval, and a 0.01 second shutter lag time. Speaking of speedy, sports fans will love being able to shoot at up to 6 frames-per-second for up to 25 continuous frames (full resolution, JPEG format), while budding filmmakers will enjoy the flexibility of shooting Full HD 1080p video at 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames-per-second and 36Mbps data rate. There's even an output for a stereo microphone. The 1.04M-dot 3.0" LCD will help frame all sorts of shots, but will be particularly useful in the camera's Macro Mode capable of getting within 3.9" (10cm) of a subject. Or if you're more into time-lapse photography, you can set up interval timer shooting for up to 999 frames spaced between 1 second and 24 hours.

Finally, each X100T offers WiFi capabilities, which connects the premium compact to iOS or Android apps like the free FUJIFILM Camera Remote app (remotely control your camera from your smartphone or tablet) or the INSTAX Share App (instantly send photos to your Fujifilm INSTAX Share Printer.)
