FUJIFILM's X-Series has a new premium performance ILC for 2016. Dubbed the X-T2, this splash-resistant digicam boasts a 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter, 4K video recording, a new and improved 325-point / 91-zone AutoFocus system, the X-Processor Pro engine, and several Film Simulation modes and filters; all stuffed into a body with their signature retro styling.

In addition to the 4K Video recording (clips are limited to 10 minutes), the big news on the X-T2 is the improved AutoFocus system. In addition to the added focus points and focus zones, 40% of the imagine area is reserved for phase detection AF while 65% of the area uses contrast detection. This means you can autofocus on small points of light as well as detailed textures, or in lower lighting conditions. AF-C has been improved as well, to help track moving objects for accurately and efficiently. And, AFC-mode is fully customizable, with users given access to settings for Subject Retention Characteristic, Acceleration / Deceleration Tracking Characteristic and Focus Zone Characteristic.

The X-T2 has two displays -- a 2.36M dot OLED EVF, plus a 3.0" 1.04M-dot tilting LCD. There are also four display modes. FULL mode displays shooting info at the top and bottom of the screen. DUAL mode adds a second screen for checking focus. NORMAL engages in AF mode to help you frame your shot but keep you aware of shooting conditions. And PORTRAIT (available in Full or Normal) rotates the shooting information when you turn the X-T2 vertically.

In addition to FUJIFILM's proprietary image design technology, the engineers have added several film simulation modes, including ACROS, to help achieve the look you're going for. Want more grain or graduation or deeper black levels or to make your photos look like they were shot several decades ago? There's a simulation for you.

The X-T2 isn't just fast; it's also tough. Its die-cast magnesium body features 63 points of weather sealing, which make it dust and moisture-resistant and freeze resistance to 14°F. In terms of ergonomics, there are two command dials and six Function buttons to help you adjust settings and engage different modes on the fly.

Built-in Wi-Fi is a must for 2016 digicams, and the X-T2 includes that too, making it easy to transfer files and remotely control the camera.

If you're looking for additional performance, FUJIFILM has also announced the optional VPB-XT2 Vertical Power Booster Grip. With room for two additional batteries (now a total of three), continuous shooting bumps up to 11fps, drops shutter release lag time, and extends 4K video recording to 30 minutes. There are also additional performance benefits for interval shooting. The VBP-XT2 also adds an additional shutter release, focus thumbstick, AE-L button, AF-L button, command dials, Q button, Fn button, and headphone jack. If you plan to shoot in the field or want a more ergonomic (and customizable) setup, definitely check out this grip.
