FinePix S9000 Zoom

In AUTO mode you can only select the image size and quality, ISO, Color mode, flash mode, enable the selftimer, select metering mode, select single/continuous shooting, and select AF or manual focus. This is a quick and easy "point-n-shoot" mode.

Program AE mode allows for many options to be can be changed. See the menu below for the exposure and camera options available in Program AE, Shutter speed priority, Aperture priority or Manual mode.

Recording Menu options:

  • Selftimer - 2 or 10 seconds delay, or off
  • White Balance - Auto, Outdoors, Shade, Daylight Fluorescent, Warm White Fluorescent, Cool White Fluorescent, Incandescent Light, Custom1, Custom2
  • High Speed shooting - On reduces shutter lag by limiting focus range
  • AF Mode - Multi, Center, or Area select
  • Flash Output - (-0.6, -0.3, 0, +0.3, +0.6EV)
  • Set - Enter setup menu (see next page)
  • Sharpness - Hard, Standard, Soft
  • Saturation - High, Standard, Low
  • Sontrast - Hard, Standard, Soft
  • Bracketing - Bracketing offset (+/- 1/3, 2/3 or 1 EV)
  • Multi Exposure - On or Off
  • External Flash - On or Off (sync speeds up to 1/1000 sec)

Photo Mode options (accessed by "F" button):

  • Quality - 9M fine or normal (3488 x 2616), 3:2 (3696 x 2464), 5M (2592 x 1944), 3M (2048 x 1536), 2M (1600 x 1200), .3M (640 x 480)
  • ISO - 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600
  • Color - B&W, Chrome (vivid color), Standard (color)

As you turn the Mode dial, the a virtual image of it is displayed in the viewfinder, allowing you to make a selection even in complete darkness. Shooting modes of Manual, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority, Programmed Auto, Auto, Anti-blur, Natural light, Portrait, Landscape and Night can be selected.

To override the metering system you press and hold the "+/-" button on the top and rotate the Command Dial. This is the on-screen display showing the +/-2EV range.

Manual Focus lets you adjust the focus by turning the ring on the lens barrel. To aid in critical focusing press the Focus Check button to magnify the center 50% of the display. You can depress the One-touch AF button to achieve focus, or turn the focus ring in the direction indicated by the yellow arrow. When the AF system detects that focus has been achieved, it turns the focusing indicator mark yellow.

In any record mode other than AUTO or Movie you can press the INFO button to display the Saturation, Contrast, White Balance, Sharpness and Flash compensation settings in effect. Depress the INFO button again to display a histogram of the exposure at current settings; the histogram is also displayed in AUTO mode.

Pressing the DISP button cycles the viewfinder between displaying no text, text, Framing guideline (grid) and Post shot assist window. Post shot assist displays a smaller live image viewfinder along with the last 3 shots taken, helping you to arrange similar shots with different compositions.

The Super Macro mode allows you to shoot from 0.4 inches - 3.3 feet; regular Macro mode has a range of 3.9 inches - 9.8 feet in wide angle, and 3 feet - 9.8 feet in telephoto.

Movie mode is capable of capturing full motion video with audio at 30 frames per second in 640x480 VGA or 320x240 QVGA resolution. The length of these movies are limited only by available storage space. Because the optical zoom is manually operated you have full use of it during movie recording.
