Fujifilm FinePix S3000 Zoom Review

Features & Controls
The FinePix S3000 Fujinon 6x optical zoom lens equivalent to a 38-228mm on a 35mm camera. The possible apertures are F 2.8, 4.8 or 8.2 and can be selected in the Manual mode.
The digital zoom is 3.2x/1.6x. The focusing range in Normal AF is from 2.9ft to Infinity.
Included with the FinePix S3000 is this AR-FX3 lens adapter that allows you to attach
auxiliary lenses (Wide Conversion
Lens WL-FX9, Tele Conversion Lens TL-FX9) and 55mm filters.
Even when not using auxiliary lenses or filters, the AR-FX3 lens adapter can be used to
protect the lens when it is extended. I would suggest that you purchase a good 55mm
UV or Skylight filter to fully protect the lens.
The eyelevel finder is a 0.33-inch color LCD with 110,000 pixels of resolution. It has a field of view of approx. 95% of the captured image but lacks any kind of diopter adjustment. The EVF / LCD button lets you toggle the live view from the EVF to the LCD or vice-versa whenever desired.
You can preview, review or access the menus using either the EVF or LCD display.
The flash has an effective range of 12 in to 11.5 ft (W), 2.6 to 11.5ft (T).
Flash modes available are: Auto, Red-eye reduction,
Forced flash, Suppressed flash or Slow syncro.
It is a manual type popup flash that is activated by a button on the side.
Controls on top are the combination Power/Record/Play switch and the shutter release.
The Mode Dial has positions for Manual Record, Scene, Auto and Movie.
Controls on the back: The 4-way selector is the zoom control (up and down), macro mode (left) and flash mode (right) in record mode. It is also used to navigate menus and select review images. In play mode the zoom controls serve as the image enlargement controls to zoom in or out.
The DISPlay button in Record controls the amount of information displayed on the 1.8-inch
LCD or EVF or enables the framing grid lines. In Playback the DISPlay button
toggles between Text display ON/OFF and Index thumbnail mode.
The MENU/OK button toggles the Menu on/off . While ON, the
menu selections are navigated with the 4-way and the OK button makes selections. The BACK
button is for cancelling a menu procedure.
The USB 1.1 port for downloading to the computer
The FinePix S3000 is equipped with a xD-Picture card slot and is supplied with a 16MB xD
card. It's compatible with any size xD card from Fuji and Olympus.
Power is supplied by four AA batteries, alkaline, NiMH or lithium type may be used. We, of course, recommend the use of NiMH rechargeable batteries , they pack more power and they're reusable. Fuji lists the battery life at 350 frames with the LCD on and 400 frames with the EVF using alkaline batteries. When using fully charged 2100mAh NiMH batteries you can raise that to 400 frames w/LCD and 450 frames w/EVF.
In future models that use either 2-AA or 4-AA batteries we would also like the option of using Li-ion CR-V3 type batteries (hint, hint Mr Fuji). They're lighter and they hold a charge longer than NiMH cells.
