Features & Controls
The S100FS employs a powerful Fujinon f2.8-f5.3, 7.1-101.5mm 14.3x optical zoom lens that's equivalent to 28-400mm on a 35mm camera. This is a very powerful unit, which offers a great deal of versatility for composing your shots. The lens is protected by the included lens cap. You can also use 67 mm (2.6 in)-diameter thin type filters (like a polarizing filter). Be sure to use thin type filters as standard filters may cause vignetting. The included Lens hood has a removable "polarizing filter widnow cover". Once removed, it allows you to stick your finger throught the hood in order to rotate the filter.
This lens is zoomed manually by twisting the lens barrel, just like you would with a true dSLR model. This allows for very precise focal lenght adjustents and framing.
On the side of the camara you can also see contols for the flash release, Burst or Drive mode, Dual IS, and the Focus selector swicth with the One-touch AF button in the center.
The TTL contrast-type auto focus system features Single AF, Continuous AF and Manual focus modes with your choice of AF frame selection: AF (Center), AF(Multi), or AF (Area). It also features a Face Detection mode. The Normal focusing range in wide angle is from 1.6 ft. (50cm) to infinity, in telephoto from 8.2 ft. (2.5m) to infinity. Macro mode covers from 3.9 in - 9.8 ft (10cm - 3.0m) in Wide and 3.0 to 9.8 ft (0.9 - 3.0m) in Tele. Super macro mode allows you to focus from 0.4 in - 3.3 ft. (1cm - 1m). This AF system is aided in low lighting by a built-in AF-assist lamp.
The aperture range is f/2.8-11.0 at
wide angle and f/5.3-11.0 at telephoto, in 1/3 EV increments (Manual/Auto selectable).
The automatic popup flash has an effective range at wide angle of 2.6 to 23.6 ft. (0.6 to 7.2m) and 8.2 to 12.5 ft. (30cm to 3.0m) at telephoto. Macro coverage at wide angle is 1.0 to 2.6 ft. (0.3 to 0.8m) and 3.0 to 4.3 ft. (0.9 to 1.3m) at telephoto. This is using ISO Auto (800).
Flash modes available are: Auto, Forced flash, Slow Syncro
