Fujifilm FinePix F601 Zoom Review
Features & Controls
The F601 Zoom employs a Super EBC Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens, it's equivalent to 36-108mm on a 35mm camera. When the camera is powered down the lens retracts inside the camera and is covered by a built in lens protector.
The digital zoom is 4.4x (640 x 480), 2.2x (1280 x 960) or 1.4x (2048 x 1536). The aperture can be set at F 2.8, 4.0, 5.6 or 8.0.
The focusing range in Normal AF is from 2.0ft - Infinity. When in Macro mode it
covers from 0.7 - 2.6 ft.
The eyelevel optical real-image zoom viewfinder has a field of view of approx. 80% of the
captured image. It has no diopter adjustment. The LED turns green to indicate focus lock
and turns yellow when writing to the memory card.
The popup flash has an effective range (at ISO 200): wide angle: 7.8 in. - 15.4 ft.
Telephoto: 7.8 in. - 9.8 ft. Flash modes available are: Auto, Red-eye reduction,
Forced flash, Suppressed flash or Slow syncro.
The Mode Dial has positions for Manual Recording, Scene Mode, Auto, Movie and Audio recording. In the center is the shutter release button.
The Manual Mode allows access to Aperture-priority Auto, Shutter-priority Auto and the Full Manual exposure modes.
The Scene Modes are: Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night Scene and Continuous.
All of the controls are on the back. The OPEN button pops-up the flash, below that
is the BACK button to step back or exit from menu options. The slide control lets you
quickly go from Record to Playback mode. The 4-way selector in Record mode operates the zoom
lens with the up and down positions and calls up the menu and accepts selections by pushing
it in the center. If you have small fingers it's OK but for
those of us with larger fingers it's a challenge to operate it correctly.
Above the color LCD is the DISPlay button (on the left) which controls the data
overlayed on the LCD and turns the display on and off. On the right is the Power
button. Inbetween are illuminated icons that visually indicate the
selected operating mode.
On the bottom is the docking cradle connector. If you don't have
the optional cradle then you just plug the USB cable directly into the camera.
When using the cradle, the charging power, USB and Audio/Video connections are made
automatically. On the left side is the 5v DC INput jack for the battery charger.
The Audio and Video Out capability is only available with the docking cradle.
The F601 Zoom is equipped with a SmartMedia card slot and is supplied with a 16MB SM card.
It's compatible with any 3.3v SM card from 2MB to 128MB. The battery is also located
in this compartment.
Power is supplied by a super-slim and proprietary lithium rechargeable battery pack. The
NP-60 is a 3.7V 1035mAH pack that charges in the camera in five hours or less. The optional
BC-60 rapid charger can recharge the NP-60 in 60-120 minutes.
This is a very slim battery as you can see.
