Flip incorporated a fixed 0.8mm, f/2.4 lens allows the camera to perform well in most lighting conditions, including low-light situations. The lens sits behind a glass cover for protection. There is no optical zoom, but there is the option of the smooth 2x digital zoom.
Along with shooting, you can also watch your movies on the camera's 2.0-inch LCD screen. The shiny coating over the entire back of the camera is reflective, making it difficult to see the screen in bright light.
The controls on the back are very simple to understand and use. Only the REC button in the middle is an actual button while the others are touch-sensitive areas built into the back. These spots operate easily but are also very easy to touch and change accidentally. Once learned the controls are very simple. The + and - control the zoom, the arrows navigate through your recorded images. You can also see buttons for playback mode, delete and then the REC button.
Connecting the MinoHD to any computer is a snap. The built-in USB arm swings out with a flip of the switch. Your movies can then be viewed, copied or uploaded with Flip's software that is loaded onto the camera, so you always have it with you.
If the computer is not where you want to see your images, the camera can also be hooded up to any HDTV thanks to the HDMI port on the bottom of the camera. To the right is the camera's tripod mount.
