Note: Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures, the Z77 does not output video in
record mode, so these screens had to be photographed off the LCD.
Here you can see a screen shot of the "easy" mode. This is a fully automatic mode for beginners that offers very little adjustments to exposure modes (see below).
As you can see, the easy mode menu has very few options.
New this year is the Panel shortcut menu that stays on the right side of the LCD screen. It provides quick
access to many camera settings (Program AE mode shown). You can also disable this function via the Setup
menu.
Typical Auto record mode screen - image size is set to 7-megapixel (7m), the battery is 1/3 full and there is space for 413 more pictures on the memory card. The new menu bar also appears on the side of the display.
When you half-press the shutter release and the camera achieves focus and exposure lock, the
AF marks will turn green and other information will then disappear. When focus
fails, the AF marks will turn red (not shown).
Pressing the display button toggles the amount of overlay information in both record and
playback modes. Here is the full information display with the live histogram.
Press the "BS" button to select the Record mode:
- Auto - Program AE snapshot mode
- Movie mode (see below)
- Best Shot "scene" modes:
Portrait, Scenery, Portrait with Scenery, Children, Sports, Candlelight Portrait,
Party, Pet, Flower, Natural Green, Autumn Leaves, Soft Flowing Water, Splashing Water,
Sundown, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait, Fireworks, Food, Text, Collection,
Back light, Anti Shake, High Sensitivity, Monochrome, Retro (sepia), Twilight, Old Photo, Business Card
and Documents, White Board, For eBay mode and Register (custom build your own BS mode)
- Audio only to make voice recordings
When taking a shot of a
business card, document, white board, or similarly shaped object from an angle,
it can cause the subject to appear angularly distorted. Business card/Document and White
board/etc. modes automatically correct the shape of rectangular objects to
make them appear like the camera was positioned directly in front of them.
Here is a screen showing the framing Grid display. You activated this via the
record menu. This is a helpful framing guide to ensure you get level shots.
The EX-Z77 can record high quality motion video with sound in many different modes and image qualities (see below). For the EX-Z77, Casio has switched from the mpeg-4 format to the H.264/AVC QuickTime Movie mode (MOV). Each movie can be 10 minutes long, and will automatically stop at that point. The higher quality video that you shoot in will take up more space and require a larger memory card than a lower setting.

The Z77 can also be used like an audio recorder. Approx. 25 minutes can be
recorded using the internal memory. When using optional memory card
the length is limited only by available memory, file size is 5.5KB per second.
Standard Windows WAVE/ADPCM ".WAV" format.

The "Family First" mode allows you to pre-record facial information into the camera and specify a priority
setting. This will allow the camera to concentrate on the pre-recorded and prioritized faces in group
portraits.
