(Note: Please excuse the quality of some screen captures, the EX-Z1080
does not have video out when in record mode so we had to take
these from the user's manual.)
Here you can see the Panel display, using the typical Auto record mode. Along the right hand side
of the frame are icons for Image size/quality, Flash mode, Self-timer, Anti-Shake, ISO, White
balance, EV compensation, and the Time. On the right you can also see the live histogram
display. This "Panel" is actually a shortcut menu. Pressing the SET button in the center of the 4-way controller allows
you to toggle settings. A very "cool" feature.
Press the "BS" button to select the Record mode:
- Auto - Program AE snapshot mode
- Movie mode (see below)
- Best Shot "scene" modes:
Portrait, Scenery, Portrait with Scenery, Children, Sports, Candlelight Portrait, Party, Pet, Flower, Natural
Green, Autumn Leaves, Soft Flowing Water, Splashing Water, Sundown, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait,
Fireworks, Food, Text, Collection, For eBay, Backlight, Anti Shake, High Sensitivity, Under Water, Monochrome, Retro (sepia), Twilight, ID Photo, Old Photo, Business Card and Documents, White Board, Short Movie, Past Movie, For YouTube, and Register (custom build your own BS mode)
- Audio only to make voice recordings
When taking a shot of a business card, document, whiteboard, or similarly shaped object from an angle, it
can cause the subject to appear angularly distorted. Business card/Document and White board/etc. modes
automatically correct the shape of rectangular objects to make them appear like the camera was positioned
directly in front of them.
Here is a screen showing the framing Grid display. You activated this via the
record menu. This is a helpful framing guide to ensure you get level shots.
The EX-Z1080 can record motion video at several resolution settings, 848x480 (UHQ Wide/HQ Wide), 640x480
(UHQ/HQ/Normal), and 320x240 (LP) with sound. The maximum size of a clip is up to 10 minutes. The zoom can
not be used while recording, but can be preset before. Motion video clips are encoded into MPEG-4 AVI
format.
The Z1080 can also be used like an audio recorder. Approx. 25 minutes can be
recorded using the internal memory. When using optional memory card
the length is limited only by available memory, file size is 5.5KB per second.
Standard Windows WAVE/ADPCM ".WAV" format.
