Record Screens & Menus
The
screen display in the Automatic record mode. Icons on screen indicate
the exposure mode being used (AUTO), Flash is set to off, the battery
level is full, and orientation is horizontal (small camera icon at the top
right).
Program
exposure mode is like Auto in that the camera selects both the shutter
speed and aperture for a correct exposure, but you now have access to a
multitude of more advanced Function and Menu options; like metering,
ISO, White balance, etc.
When
the color LCD is turned on and you half-press the shutter you will see
which of the nine AF points (green rectangles) were used for the focus
lock. The aperture and shutter speed values are also shown along the
bottom. The orange glow is from the AF-assist lamp.
Program mode Function options:- Metering - Evaluative, Center Weighted Avg., Spot
- My Colors - Off, Vivid, Neutral, Sepia, B&W, Positive Film, Lighter Skin Tone, Darker Skin Tone, Vivid Blue, Vivid Green, Vivid Red, or Custom Color
- White Balance - Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H, Custom one-push WB set
- ISO - Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600
- Exposure Mode - Program, Portrait, Night Scene, Kits&Pets, Party, Sunset, Fireworks, Long Shutter, Beach, Underwater (with optional housing), Aquarium, Foliage, Snow, ISO 3200, Digital Macro, Color Accent, Color Swap, and Stitch Assist 1&2.
- Drive Mode - Singe or Continuous
- Image Size - L (12M, 4000x3000), M1 (8M, 3264x2448), M2 (5M, 2592x1944), M3 (2M, 1600x1200), S (640x480) and Wide (4000x2248)
- Image Quality - with Fine or Normal compression

- Review - Off, Hold or 2 - 10 secs

- Display Overlay - Enable or disable Grid lines, 3:2 Guide, Off or Both
- IS Mode - Continuous, Shoot Only, Panning, Off
- Date Stamp - Off, Date or Date & Time
Above
are the screens displayed when pressing any direction on the 4-way
controller in record mode. It provides shortcuts to frequently used
settings including exposure compensation, flash settings, timers and
focus mode.
You
can record movie clips with audio at a variety of resolutions. The
SD780 offers Standard Definition movies at resolutions of 640x480 or
320x240 as well as a High Definition mode at 1280x720. The frame rate
for all three modes is 30fps. For those of you who are a bit more
creative, there are also options for Color accent and Color swap. The
optical zoom may not be used during recording, but can be preset before
hand. These clips are captured in QuickTime format and saved as .MOV
files.
Both the video and audio portion of movies can be
replayed on the camera thanks to the built-in speaker. Full audio-video
playback is also possible when connected to a TV monitor or a
compatible PC after downloading. The SD940 also offers HD video output via a HDMI port.
