The PowerShot SD940 IS is one of Canon's latest Digital ELPH models, which shares most of it's features with the popular SD780 IS we reviewed back in March of 2009. This diminutive point-n-shoot is loaded with high-end features, like 12-megapixels, a 4x optical zoom lens, 2.7-inch LCD, and a 720p HD video mode, all packed into a durable metal body.

Powershot SD940 IS Features:

  • 12.1 Megapixel CCD sensor for up to 4000x3000 pixel images
  • 4x optical zoom covers 28-112mm equivalent range
  • Optical Image Stabilization (IS) technology
  • 2.7-inch PureColor II LCD with 230,000 pixels
  • Widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio for HDTV display
  • Ultra-compact and durable metal body (3.52 x 2.16 x 0.79 in.)
  • Advanced TTL AiAF 9-point autofocus system with focus-assist lamp
  • Canon's Face Detection and i-Contrast technologies
  • Auto, Scene and Program exposure modes
  • Continuous 0.8fps shooting until memory is full
  • HD (1280x720 or SD (640x480, 320x240) movie recording at 30fps up to 4GB
  • Evaluative metering on focus point or Spot
  • Exposure compensation: +/-2EV in 1/3-step increments
  • White Balance: Auto, 5 presets or Custom
  • Shutter speeds of 15 seconds to 1/1500 second (Long Shutter up to 15 secs.)
  • Auto noise reduction with 1.3 sec or longer shutter speeds
  • Selectable ISO settings from 80 to 1600
  • Intelligent Orientation Sensor
  • Built-in microphone and speaker
  • Lithium rechargeable battery and charger included
  • Direct print and PictBridge Compliant
