Canon Powershot D10 Review
Record Modes & Menus
Here you can see the 'Smart' Auto mode. This is a fully automatic point-n-shoot exposure mode that can intelligently analyze the frame and choose the best setting for the photo. Very little information if shown on the screen. You can see icons for flash statue (Off), mode (Auto), battery level (full) image size (large), image quality (fine), and we have room for 146 more photos on our memory card.
To change the exposure mode, you press the Mode button that is located above the LCD. Here you can choose Auto, Program, Movie or one of 18 pre-programmed scene modes.
Program AE exposure mode is like Auto in that the camera selects both the shutter speed and aperture for a correct exposure. However, now you have access to a multitude of Function and Menu options as well as color effects. Icons on the screen indicate ISO speed is set to Auto, flash is off, single drive mode, metering is set to evaluative, etc.
When you half-press the shutter you will see which of the nine AF points (green rectangles) were used for the focus lock. You can also see the shutter speed, aperture and ISO values that were selected for by the camera for this shot.

The D10 records can capture video clips at either 640x480 or 320x240 at 30fps. The optical zoom may not be used during recording, but can be preset before hand. You can use the Digital zoom option, however it will degrade the quality of your movies, so use it sparingly. Movie clips are recorded in QuickTime MPEG4 format and saved as .MOV files. Both the video and audio portion of movies can be replayed on the camera thanks to the built-in speaker. Full audio-video playback is also possible when connected to a TV monitor or a compatible PC after downloading.
