Canon Powershot A720 IS Review

When you select Playback mode the last picture taken is displayed. You can move backward or forward through the images using the LEFT and RIGHT buttons. The amount of overlay information displayed is controlled by pressing the DISP button. Information across the bottom is 3/5 which means image 3 of 5 total. The image quality used "SuperFine/Large" and the time and date it was captured are also displayed. If you press the DISP button again all of the overlay information is removed. This is good for when you are showing the pictures on the TV and don't want the info displayed.

You can quickly search through stored images using the Index playback function which is actuated by pressing the Wide zoom control button. Nine thumbnail size images will be displayed and you can select one using the LEFT or RIGHT buttons and then pressing the Telephoto zoom button only, the set/func button does not work. Pressing the Wide button again will put you in jump mode where you can backward or forward a page at a time.

The image can be magnified up to 10x in ten steps by pressing the telephoto zoom button. Once the image is enlarged at any step, you can move around inside of it using the 4-way selector buttons.

Movie clips can be played in the camera with audio thanks to the built-in speaker. Press the FUNC. / SET button to play a clip.

You get "VCR-like" buttons to control the playback.

Program AE, Tv, Av and Manual mode MENU options:

Auto Play - Runs a slideshow of all images and movies
Red Eye Correction - Removes Red Eyes from images
Resize - Save your images with smaller resolutions and file sizes
Sound Memo - Add a voice recording to go with your photograph
Protect - Protect images from being erased
Rotate - Change the orientation of the image
Erase All - Erase all images on the card
Transfer Order - DPOF
Transition - Add a transition to the images for the slideshow

The Sound Memo options lets you record memos or notes up to 60 seconds in length which are attached to still images. You can overwrite or delete previous memos.

Mute - Mute camera sounds
Volume - Change volume of camera sounds
Start-up Image - Turns the start-up image on or off
Power Saving -Change when the camera will auto shut off and how long the image is displayed after capture
Date/Time -Set date and time
Format - Format the memory card
File Numbering - Continuous or Auto Reset
Create Folder- Create a new folder for storing images
Auto Rotate - Rotates the image according to the way you are holding the camera
Distance Units - meters or feet
Lens Retract - 1 Minute or 0 seconds
Language - Choose from 25 Languages
Video System - NTSC or PAL
