Canon Powershot A590 IS Review

When you slide the Mode switch to the Playback position, the last picture taken is displayed full screen. You can move backward or forward through the images using the LEFT and RIGHT buttons. The amount of overlay information displayed is controlled by pressing the DISP button. You can choose from no info, basic info, a full detailed list of settings with histogram or a close up view to check focus.

You can quickly search through stored images using the Index playback function which is actuated by pressing the Wide zoom control button. Nine thumbnail size images will be displayed and you can select one using the LEFT or RIGHT buttons and then pressing the Telephoto zoom button. Pressing the Wide button again will put you in jump mode where you can backward or forward a page at a time.

The jump feature allows you to quickly search through your images by the date that they were taken.

The image can be magnified up to 10x in ten steps by pressing the telephoto zoom button. Once the image is enlarged at any step, you can move around inside of it using the 4-way selector buttons.

Movie clips can be played in the camera with audio thanks to the built-in speaker. Press the FUNC. / SET button to play a clip.

Playback Menu:

Slide Show - Runs a slide show of all the images on the memory card
My Category - Separate your photos into categories for easier navigation
Red Eye Correction - Removes redness from the eyes of your subjects
Resize - Save a smaller copy of a photograph
Sound Memo - Record a sound memo to played back when you view the image
Protect - Protect an image from being deleted
Rotate - Change the orientation of your image by 90° at a time
Erase All - Erase all images from the memory card
Transfer Order - Choose the order of images to be sent to print
Resume - Select the image that will be seen when you turn the camera to playback mode
Transition - Select a transition for browsing your photos

Resize allows you to make your images smaller on the camera without the need for a computer. The picture will save as new file so that you do not lose the original.

The rotate feature allows the camera to rotate an image without a computer 90° at a time.

Create Folder - Create a folder on the memory card for saving your photographs

Language - Choose from one of the 25 languages
Video System - NTSC or PAL
Print Method - Auto or PictBridge
Reset All - Reset all options back to the factory defaults
