Auto mode allows for anyone to pick up and start shooting with this entry-level camera. All of the settings are chosen for you, except for the flash, which can be turned off or set to auto mode. While in Auto mode, the camera will automatically pick a scene mode that best represents the shooting situation.
The camera mode button on the back allows you to quickly and easily change your shooting mode at any time. Your choices include Auto, Program, SCeNe and Movie mode.
Program is an automatic shooting mode that gives you more control over the settings of the camera. The camera automatically sets the exposure information based on the settings that you have chosen.

White Balance - Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H, Custom
My Colors - Off, Vivid, Neutral, Sepia, B&W, Custom Color
AF Mode - Evaluative, Center, Spot
Drive Mode - Single or Continuous
Image Quality - Fine or Normal
Image Size - L (3648x2736), M1 (2816x2112), M2 (2272x1704), M3 (1600x1200),

The A490 has the ability to record video with sound at resolutions of 640x480 or 320x240 at 30fps. The 3.3x optical zoom lens cannot be used during recording, but can be set beforehand. Video recording is limited to approx. 1 hour per video, no matter how large the memory card may be.
