Record Screens & Menus

Shooting with Canon's OVF (optical viewfinder) leaves the LCD with the ability to show you a slew of shooting information. From the common exposure settings to the AF points to an electronic level, there are several options, and a ton of information that can be shown here. And of course, to save on your battery, the screen can be left off as well.

Live view shooting allows you to shoot via the LCD, just like a point-n-shoot camera. Shooting this way means the camera must use the contrast-detect AF method, which slows it down considerably. The screen shows 100% of the captured image area, so you never have to guess on the edges of your images. Pressing the INFO button allows you to change the amount of information that is shown on the LCD screen, from nothing to a full list of shooting settings with a histogram. Shown above is the Scene Intelligent Auto shooting mode, just like on the Canon's compact cameras. This allows anyone to shoot with the camera.

Program mode is another automatic shooting mode that gives some control to the user. While the camera takes care of the shutter speed and aperture settings for you, the rest of the shooting settings are at your control.

Manual mode gives complete control over the camera and all of its settings for total creative freedom. Aperture and Shutter priority modes also fit into this category, but with their own modes on the mode dial.

On the back of the camera you will find the "Q"uick menu button. This button brings up a menu showing the more common exposure settings, and a few others, on the LCD screen. When this screen is up, you can use the directional pad to choose and the command dial to change these settings without going through the main camera menu.
