Camera Menus


The menu system is called up by depressing the MENU button. The menu's are navigated by scrolling 1 selection at a time using the the Main or Quick Control dial, or by moving to the first item of each menu category by depressing the JUMP button. The menu categories are Shooting, highlighted in red, Playback, highlighted in blue, and Setup, highlighted in yellow.




Shooting Menu

  • Quality: Select the image quality setting
      Large/Fine - 3504 x 2336 low JPEG compression - 3.6MB
      Large/Normal - 3504 x 2336 high JPEG compression - 1.8MB
      Medium/Fine - 2544 x 1696 low JPEG compression - 2.2MB
      Medium/Normal - 2544 x 1696 high JPEG compression - 1.1MB
      Small/Fine - 1728 x 1152 low JPEG compression - 1.2MB
      Small/Normal - 1728 x 1152 high JPEG compression - 0.6MB
      RAW (CR2) - 3504 x 2336 - 8.7MB
        RAW+L Fine JPEG
        RAW+L Normal JPEG
        RAW+M Fine JPEG
        RAW+M Normal JPEG
        RAW+S Fine JPEG
        RAW+S Normal JPEG

  • Red-eye On/Off - Turn on or off the red eye reduction mode of the built-in flash

  • Beep - Enable/disable sounds

  • Shoot w/out Card - Enable/disable shutter if no CF card present

  • AEB - Auto exposure bracketing increment (-2 to +2EV)

  • WB SHIFT/BKT - Set the step increment for white balance bracketing

  • Custom WB - Set the custom white balance value using a stored image

  • Color temp. - Manually set white balance (2800-10000 °K in 100° steps)

  • Color Space: Select sRGB or Adobe RGB.

  • Picture Style: Selects image effects; see next menu description.




Picture Style Menu

  • Standard: For vivid, sharp and crisp images

  • Portrait: For nice skin tones, slightly sharp and crisp

  • Landscape: For vivid blues and greens, very sharp and crisp images

  • Neutral: For natural colors and subdued images; no sharpening applied

  • Faithful: For colormetric adjustment of colors of subjects shot under a color temperature of 5200K; no sharpening applied

  • Monochrome: For Black and White images

  • User Def. 1-3: For user-defined Picture Styles

  • Detail set.: For changing parameters of the pre-defined and user-defined Picture Styles - see next menu

The numeric parameters (or N) shown for each style are from left to right Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation and Color Tone.




Picture Style Menu - Detail set

Processing parameters for both the pre-defined and user-defined Color Styles are set from the Detail set menu.

  • Sharpness: Adjust from 0 (no sharpening) to 7 (maximum sharpening)

  • Contrast: Adjust from -4 (low contrast) to +4 (high contrast)

  • Saturation: Adjust from -4 (low saturation) to +4 (high saturation)

  • Color tone: Adjust from -4 (reddish skin tone) to +4 (Yellowish skin tone)

The Monochrome Color Style's Sharpness and Contrast can also be adjusted, plus a Filter effect of None, Yellow, Orange, Red or Green, and a Toning effect of None, Sepia, Blue, Purple or Green.

Setup Menu

  • Auto Power Off: Sets the amount of inactivity time before the camera automatically turns itself off. (1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30 mins or Off)

  • Auto rotate: Enable auto rotation of portrait mode images.

  • LCD Brightness: Adjust brightness of color LCD, 5 levels.

  • Date/Time: Set the time and date and select the desired display format

  • File Numbering - Sequentially number or auto reset when CF card replaced, or manual reset

  • Language: Menu language (English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean or Japanese)

  • Video system: NTSC or PAL video format

  • Communication - Print/PC, LAN(WFT-E1)

  • Format: Formats the CF card.

  • C Fn - Custom Functions submenu (see below)

  • Clear settings - Resets all all camera settings, Custom Functions, or registered camera settings to default

  • Register camera settings Saves shooting and menu settings for later recall using the Mode dial C position

  • Sensor Cleaning: Sets up the camera for CCD sensor cleaning. Connect the camera to the AC power supply or insert a freshly charged battery and then use this function to open the shutter and lock up the mirror. "CCd CLn" will be displayed on the top LCD, do not turn camera off until cleaning is completed.

  • Image Transfer (LAN) Settings: Displayed when Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1/E1A is used

  • Firmware: Update the camera firmware. Requires that the necessary files be located on the memory card.

      0 - AF/AE lock
      1 - AE Lock / AF
      2 - AF/AF Lock, no AE lock
      3 - AE/AF, no AE lock

  5. AF-assist beam
      0 - Emits
      1 - Does not Emit
      2 - Only external flash emits

  6. Exposure level increments
      0 - 1/3 stop
      1 - 1/2 stop

  7. Flash
      0 - Fires
      1 - Does not fire

  8. ISO expansion
      0 - Off
      1 - On (enables ISO setting 3200)

  9. Bracket.sequence/Auto cancel.
      0   0,-,+ (enabled)
      1   0,-,+ (disabled)
      2   -,0,+ (enabled)
      3  -,0,+ (disabled)

  10. Superimposed display
      0 - On, display active AF points
      1 - Off

  11. Menu button display position
      0 - Previous (top if powered down) menu

      1 - Enable, if subject brightness changes suddenly and current settings are unsuitable, camera auto shifts to obtain proper exposure
