Canon EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR Preview
Canon has a new flagship full frame DSLR for 2016. The EOS-1D X Mark II builds on the already-stunning 1D X by upgrading most of the internals, dropping the price, and improving just about every measurable performance metric. Canon calls it The Ultimate EOS Camera.
Jumping into specifics, the EOS-1D X MII boasts a new 20.2-megaxpixel 35mm full frame CMOS image sensor that, when mated to dual DIGIC 6+ image processors, makes this camera capable of blazing speeds, extended ISO ranges for ultra low light performance with tack sharp imagery, and an incredible new 61-point viewfinder AutoFocus (AF) where, up to f/8, you can select up to all 61 points for incredible accuracy. Sports photographers can shoot up to 14fps with AE and AF on (or 16fps in Live View mode), capturing up to 170 RAW images or a nearly-limited number of JPEGS. Standard ISO speed range is 100 - 51,200, while expansion ISO speeds include 50, 102,400, 204,800 and 409,600. Canon says the 1D X Mark II can shoot images at ISO 8,000 that resemble ISO 800 from only a few years ago. The Auto Exposure (AE) system is so smart it can compensate for the flickering light sources (like sodium vapor lights in swimming pools).
Videographers can shoot DCI 4K video at up to 60p, while recording to an in-camera CFast 2.0 memory card (one of two memory card slots). In this recording mode, 4K Frame Grab allows you to pull an 8.8MP still images from any recorded frame. Or if you're shooting Full 1080p HD, you can record at up to 120p for ultra-smooth slow motion. Dual Pixel CMOS AF is available during video recording as well, simply by touching the camera's 3.2" touchscreen LCD display before or during recording.
The EOS-1D X MII also has built-in GPS as well as improved wireless capabilities, but the wireless features require the optional WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter to work.
