To review captured images you press the PLAYBACK button (the small right-pointing triangle below the color LCD),
this puts the camera into playback mode and the last image captured is displayed. To scroll through the images saved you
rotate the Quick Control dial. The Single image screen shows the picture full screen with the shutter speed, aperture, image number
and source memory card (1=CF, 2=SD)
above the image. If the Highlight Alert option is enabled any portion of the image
that is over-exposed or potentially over-exposed will blink.
If you press the INFO button while in PLAYBACK mode the camera will change the display format. First you begin with the
single image display, press the INFO button you will see the image plus image size info. Press the INFO button again and you
see the image, info and histogram. And a final press will show the shooting information display.
If the Auto Rotate option was enabled when you captured the picture it will be
displayed like this on playback. You can manually rotate portrait mode images via
the playback menu when needed.
The Single image can be enlarged, by pressing the magnifier+ button, from 1.5X up to 10X for inspection of focus, color or
composition. You can use the Multi-controller button to scroll around the magnified image at any step. RAW images
are displayed unsharpened. If you want to field-check focus when shooting RAW
images, record RAW + Small JPEG with a high value for sharpness; the camera will
display the sharpened JPEG in playback mode.
During image playback you turn on the index function by pressing the magnifier- button. First the 4-up index is displayed. Press
the magnifier- button a second time and you'll see a 9-up image display.
