Typical Program AE mode LCD screen display. Information across the top is "P"rogram AE mode, F1.8 aperture, 1/10s shutter speed, exposure compensation is 0.0 (none), flash is disabled, shooting in single frame mode, spot metering is enabled, ISO is fixed at 100, SHQ quality, 1600x1200 image size, 37 shots remaining and the internal SDRAM buffer is empty (black vertical rectangle in lower left corner).

Shooting now in "A"perture priority mode. Note the F1.8 is in green and can be changed to other values using the 4-way selector switch.

The "S"hutter priority mode is identical except that the shutter speed would be indicated in green. And of course "M"anual mode allows you to change both the aperture value and shutter speed.

To go into MF (manual focus) mode you select it from the onscreen menu (see below) and then change the focusing distance using the 4-way selector while watching the LCD screen display. The screen display magnifies the center portion of the frame to allow for more critical focusing. The distance is indicated in meters or feet depending on a setup menu choice.

Multi-Spot metering allows you to specify up to 8 individual points to measure the exposure value from and then averages them together to calculate the exposure value for the scene. You enable Multi-spot metering, center the frame on the area you want to evaluate and press the AEL button, repeat up to 8 times before capturing the picture.
