Exciting news, folks! We’ve partnered with Tamron USA to host our second photo contest of 2018. Welcome to the Steve’s Digicams Shadow & Light Photo Contest where two talented photographers will each win one new Tamron lens.
What is photography but a play between shadow and light and color? For the Shadow & Light Photo Contest, we want to see your absolute best photos where you show off an interwoven mix of exposed and underexposed imagery. Where your subject — be it people, places, or things — is draped in sumptuous shadows. Where shadows define your edges or create leading lines or frame pockets of life and action. If we were making movies, film noir and conspiracy thrillers come to mind, although your photos don’t have to be dark in tone. Just a photo that incorporates a dramatic interplay of light and darkness within one frame.
What are you competing for if you decide to enter? Great question! The Steve’s Digicams staff, acting as judges, will award two photographers with one lens each. Everyone else could earn a day featured as the Steve’s Digicams Photo of the Day!
FIRST PLACE will receive one Tamron 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD ($799 MSRP)
The Tamron 70-210mm F4 — full review HERE — is natively available for Canon and Nikon DSLRs, although you may be able to use adapters for Canon, Nikon, and Sony mirrorless cameras (adapters are NOT included if you win). Model A034 boasts a 70-210mm full-frame zoom range (~105mm-315mm for APS-C or crop mode) as well as a constant maximum F4 across the zoom range. With a minimum focus distance of 0.95m & internal zooming, the Tamron 70-210mm F4 features an x0.32 magnification ratio, 4 stops of Vibration Compensation for shooting in low-light, a 9-bladed aperture for creamy bokeh, and weighs only 30 ounces (850 grams). It’s a terrific, affordable lens for anyone shooting action, sports, weddings, wildlife, or portraits.
The Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 — full review HERE — is an excellent portrait prime for Canon, Nikon, and Sony camera systems. With a 40mm full-frame focal length (70mm for APS-C, 90mm for M4/3), Model F2013 boasts an F1.8 maximum aperture, an 11.4-inch minimum focus distance, a 9-blade aperture, and weighs around 19 oz. Vibration Compensation is also built-in, but only for Canon and Nikon mounts. Sony shooters will have to rely on their cameras with in-body image stabilization. In our testing, we found the lens to be very sharp with excellent colors and delicious bokeh, making the lens an excellent overall value. If you shoot portraits or street photography, the Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 is a great option.
