Olympus Tough TG-6 Short Review
There’s a lot to love about the Olympus Tough TG-6 camera. This tiny compact comes with a lot of bells and whistles that you have access to both above and underwater. We’re not just talking about creative and shooting modes here like art filters, panorama shots, and interval shooting. We’re talking about its near indestructibility, up to 8x zoom, several video recording capabilities, and a plethora of fun yet utilitarian accessories, to start. And, most importantly, it takes impressively sharp photos, even at its longest.
Then again, there are also a few things you might not appreciate. The video quality is subpar at best. It’s not very good at minimizing chromatic aberration, ghosting, and flare. Its menus and operation aren’t exactly user-friendly or intuitive. And, there are certainly other alternatives out there that take better photos and videos – like the iPhone X Max and the GoPro Hero 7, for example. Granted, you can’t take your iPhone X Max that deep underwater, and the GoPro Hero 7’s image quality isn’t as good, and neither have comparable zoom capabilities.
So ultimately, whether or not the Olympus Tough TG-6 is worth the investment depends on what you’ll be using it for. If you’re looking for a compact and lightweight camera that will survive the harshest weather conditions, drops, takes sharp images, has great zooming capabilities and up to 50ft of water, then this camera will take you a long way. Just be prepared to climb a steep learning curve.
