Ceiva: Internet-Connected Picture Frame

Ceiva

WOW!   Don't we live in exciting times? Ceiva Logic has really got something here with the world's first Internet-connected picture frame. For those of us who enjoy sharing our digital photos, there is finally a way to include all those folks who aren't on the Internet.

The Ceiva looks like a regular photo frame with a black matt but it's not. It displays photos that are received via the built in modem!   You upload photos to Ceiva's web site and then their service sends the photos you select to friends and family member's Ceivas, no computer required!

In just a matter of minutes your photos can be shared around the world! No more printing the pictures and mailing them out to the non PC'ers.

The rear of the frame looks just like any other photo frame except for the two connectors and two buttons. The white button is used to control the Ceiva's picture playback or force a download of new photos. The black button allows you to adjust the brightness of the display.

You need to place the frame close to a phone and power outlet. The Ceiva comes with its own AC power supply so you can just leave it turned on all the time.

Give your parents the frame as a present and have them plug in the power and phone line.  In the middle of the night the frame calls to Ceiva and automatically downloads any new photos sent to their user account.

Now let's talk a little about how this all works. After the purchase of your Ceiva you sign onto their web site and set up the user account. You may also phone to set up a user account by calling 1-877-My-Frames.

Ceiva

Upload as many photos to Ceiva's site as you like. You can maintain many different photo albums (see below). Each frame will display up to 10 images in a rolling queue. Ceiva's system accepts 15 different file formats (JPG, TIF, BMP and etc.) and converts them to 64KB JPEG files for transmission and display on the frame.

Ceiva

It's easy to manage the photos that you have uploaded. When you click on a photo you have the option of sending to another Ceiva, sending it to your photo album or securing the photo so that when a download occurs the photo is not deleted from your frame.

Ceiva Logic is in the process of adding even more "channels" to the list shown here. You can select a channel instead of a photo to have the latest weather report, lottery numbers, horoscope or a humorous cartoon every day. The channel information is downloaded once a night or you can force an immediate download by pressing the white button.

Ceiva

When you upload your photos to Ceiva's site you have the option to place the photos in an album so that at a later date you can send the photos. By selecting "My Albums" from the main page you will be able to click on a photo and and then send it.

Dannee's Conclusion

I am so excited about this product.  You could buy one for each room of your house and display different photos to match the decor. Give one of these to each of your friends and family members and share photos with each other throughout the year. What about the elderly relative with no computer -- imagine how they'll feel seeing new pictures of their grandchildren every day.

The many partnerships that Ceiva Logic is creating will allow a Ceiva owner to receive downloads from news services, stock market, weather, even text messages. Our contact tells us that in the near future their frame will have a 20 image capability.

Want to buy your own Ceiva?  Just go log onto Ceiva's web site, all the ordering info can be found there. They are currently offering a Ceiva plus a year's worth of service for just $299.
